The one that hurt my feelings lately was
"If eye patch, then villain."
Their are fairly famous defiances of that trope, but not quite enough to balance.

My 17 year old goddaughter is in a chair as well. She *thinks* she's undesirable, but she's a force of nature, and a day will come when she has to beat perspective mates off with sticks.
She could be just *that* amazing, but I kinda hope humanity might be collectively changing some attitudes for the better 🙂

I have Crohn's and Enchephalitis (brain inflammation that causes seizures, the girl from brain on fire has it), those are both disabilities, and two other autoimmune inflammatory diseases that aren't, and I'm developing cataracts, all at 25 and I first got sick at 15. Because my diseases are more rare, I find better representation, but not much, and the general representation of disabled people isn't great. I mainly stick to youtube and the online communities I'm in for that.

This is such a wonderful and needed topic for a video! Right before you said it I was just thinking that things can't be researched just like anything else and so everything should be researched if we don't have that experience or knowledge. Also I find it interesting that this video came out right as I'm reading a romance with a disabled character who is part of the romance. I'm really enjoying that the author has taken that chance in making it feel real.

Looking forward to checking your books out. I've been disabled a long time, and one of the things that grinds me most is this: "It must be nice not to have to work or worry about money." And "You better not be a writer. You'll lose your hand out."

All of the above grind my gears. Nice video!

I really dislike putting ableist tropes in kid's media. Lack of conditions that affect the digestive system portrayed well.

Also, love the cats.

Only disabled when convenient. I hate that so much! Daredevil anyone? Not a fan.
All of these tropes are a pain in the ass.
Yes! This idea that disabled characters can’t have a partner is a big no. Sure, some of us are ace/aro spec and happy with and without a partner, but not everyone with a disability has that intersection. It’s yet another ableist concept that keeps being perpetuated in media. I’m done with that BS.
I’m a blind aro-ace spec, and even I have a sort of partnership going on.

I can't stand the disfigurement equals villain trope. I always hope if that's the cast there's at least a grey moral area going on for both the 'baddies' and 'goodies' too.
