Hardware Review : Sega Dreamcast

My look at the Sega Dreamcast, a console that was way ahead of it's time at it's launch on 09/09/1999 but was killed by a cloud that was just over the horizon :o(

I bought this console on ebay in 2008, after I had a dream which involved the DC, lol.

I got it with Soul Calibur, DoA 2, THPS2, Record of Lodoss War, Quake 3 Arena, DreamOn Vol.1 and 2 other DreamOn CDs where I dont know the Volumes yet straight out of my head, I just know that one of them is a Christmas Special Edition.

I immediately fell in love with the DC after playing those games.

I also bought later a couple of others.

the sereal port is used for a few things. The serial port
on the Dreamcast was intended for additional accessories, one being the Dreamcast Midi Cable. Also, there is a Coders serial cable, which is used within the homebrew community. someone made a sd adapter too that i think can be used to run games from it and maybe save games it too. not sure though.

@DLiberator78 Actually here in the UK it came with a 33.6 kbit/s modem and not a 56 kbit/s one. Consoles sold in Japan and US after September 9, 1999 had a 56 kbit/s modem and then later the broadband adapter came out. The DC I believe was the first console to have net connection.

@davidhass3lh0ff Lol hoffy, this one took ages to edit :o). Yes, if they could push the boundries and correct all the flaws of the present console, they would have a winner on their hands, even if it's people buying because they remember their older consoles :o)

awesome review dude the dreamcast is my all time fave system. like you sead there are loads of rumors on the internet abouth a new sega console but so far nothing has come of it but i do have a feeling sega will do a new console. as allways you hit it out of the park keep them great vid's coming : )

Dreamcast brought me a LOT of happy gaming memories. Not for everyone but to me SHENMUE was epic!!!!

There is a game, Last Hope Pink Bullets, a very good arcade shooter! I hope you get to play it.

Good coverage. I would have mentioned that there are some very good arcade controllers out there for the Dreamcast, seems to be better than most other systems (up to current).

Almost my favorite system, and easy to write disks for, too.

@DLiberator78 DVD-ROMS just came out when the Dreamcast came out they most likely started development with the GD-rom and did not want to redo the design once they got started. Also in that next year or so the cost of DVD technology dropped a good deal. Dreamcast just jumped the gun a little bit I think and was stuck with what they had.
