The only reason they do that far start is so they can actually breath while also getting ready at the bottom. The bigger you are the harder it is to breathe in a proper start position. So people should think of it more as a workaround they’re doing.

I mean the concept is right - most deadlifters shouldn't do the rolling start, but you're reason is completely wrong.

That technique works better for big lifters because they have massive guts. Its super tough for them to even get into the bottom position, much less brace effectively. So they start further out, and then roll the bar in to build a ton of compression and stretch reflex, then power out of the hole. That technique works even better when you're in a deadlift suit.

For a skinny or normal dude lifting raw, there isn't really much compression they have to fight at the bottom so the rolling start just makes the lift more technical for no reason

It looks like a power move when Thor pulls it in. He pulls it right up to his shins before he starts to lift it. He doesn’t start to lift it when it’s 6 inches in front of them. That’s pretty obvious right?

Damn dude what a load a horseshit. They absolutely did not pull the bar when it was an inch out from their centre of gravity, its a rolling start. It's starts far out and they pull into an otimal position from which to pull from. You do not understand what they're doing, so why would you think you should know better

the reason they pull like that is because they are in a suit not optimal at all for raw

It’s usually because they pull in a suit it is also a habit built by them they still pull over their midfoot

I think the big guys doing it because of mobility issues and those weights and heights (Although I've seen it done by perfectly mobile people as their 'ritual'.)

It is harder for them to sit down into position, so it is easier to compress themselves with the weight pulling them in as it rolls back.

And because their lower back and hips are compressing with some mommentum as they go down it might add to a stretch reflex.

Just theories. I dont think it is optimal for most, as they can get into that position and the swinging doesnt help them as much, just takes more energy. Not to say, mobility is probably a better trade off for technique and effeciency.

People really need to hear this. Don’t emulate the freaks because you aren’t one.

It's momentum. Sounds daft but putting the bar in motion helps them get it off the floor.

I mean, before they lift they get it into the right position, not sure what this guys deal is. This lecture seems really pointless. I like rolling it too, gives me a chance to breathe comfortably as i prepare myself and helps engage the lats because rolling it forcing your lats to engage. Also helps you drop your butt and get everything into perfect position

What? Didnt anyone teach you avout the stretch reflex.

No, it's because 1) they're huge and struggle to get down and 2 ) they're using deadlift suits which give more pop when you squat down and stretch it.

Momentum isn't conserved at a sudden change of direction
