I close my eyes for about 20 seconds every once in a while ( about once every half hour ) and that seems to alleviate my dry eyes.

I've done this many times over many years. Here's how it goes:
Ophthalmologist: "Your eyes are not producing 'adequate' tears.
Me: I know this. That is why I am here. Here is what I have tried: I take Omega 3 supplements, do antibacterial eyelid/eyelash washes, apply hot compresses to lids and then massage. I have also used Restasis and have taken Doxycycline for 10 months without improvement.

What else can I do?
Ophthalmologist: "I don't know. Maybe you have an immune disorder."
Me: Ok. So how do I fix it?
Ophthalmologist: "I don't know."

Stop rubbing your eyes !
I have vitreous detachment because of rubbing my eyes. a year ago, my eyes were very dry and itchy so I started to rub them till I felt a severe pain in my right eye(like a cut). next morning, I started to see squiggly lines floating inside my eye (which really affected my vision) and noticed flashes in the side of it. I’m trying to ignore those lines but it’s difficult to focus on objects. I have never been advised to avoid rubbing eyes by any doctor I’ve visited!

I've been taking fish oil supplement combining with other vitamins like e and c, it does improve my dry eyes and now im into my recovery state but sometimes id still feel the dryness but not always, just occaionally. Supplements helps my overall health and also my dry eyes.

EDITED: Nvm, my eyes are so extremely dry right now and it's hard to go outside with this

I know why I have dry eyes. because both my work & leisure are on a computer, and when you're gaming / working / are hyper focussed, you don't blink as often. Hydrasense drops helps, but I was wondering if I'm low in DHA (Omega-3).

I have three questions : Is dry eye syndrome seroius?

Optometrists and Ophthalmologists are severely undertrained. Other than routine check ups or surgeries, they're clueless! "i don't know" is usually the answer to any questions you ask them

Eye doctors generally have no advice that helps with dry eyes. I remember one top notch eye doctor simply said that he didn't want to give me more advice to contradict what others may have advised. I was like wtf? It didn't matter that it cost me a high fee to see him. I guess he has a life style to maintain. Silly me!
