It's the Indonesian word for tiger, and it's pronounced MAH-CHAHN.

I just wanna add up a little bit.
Macan is NOT Tiger.

Tiger in Indonesia is called Harimau (latin name: Panthera Tigris). Currently in Indonesia it only exist in the island of Sumatra.

While Macan (or Macan Tutul to be precise) is LEOPARD (latin name: Panthera Pardus). The habitat in Indonesia is in the island of Java. But its quite common for the people to refer all Big Cats as Macan.

And yes, Macan is pronounced Mah-Chun.

That is incorrect. The “c” should be pronounced as in cha cha cha, as someone suggested this in different posting. The word is actually from Javanese language which is my first language in Indonesia. It means tiger, the same as in Indonesian.
