Wow great talk. Archbishop Listecki is my Bishop as well. God bless him.

Have Patrick Coffin debate Salza, or any other one defending Francis' legitimacy. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. We need a real and fair confrontation of arguments here. For the love of truth and for the love of the Church, help us give light upon this matter!

The fundamental problem with the Pharisees was that they were judgemental as is often believed, but that they had become legalistic bureaucrats who had lost touch with reality. I do not agree generally with these legalistic arguments Benedict did not resign properly because it tend to emphasize paperwork over reality. However, often the same people who do not accept these legalistic arguments regarding Benedict supposedly not resigning correctly come up with all sorts of legalistic mental gymnastics so say that Amoris Laetitia is not heretical or that the changes to the Catechism on the death penalty are not reversals. Please be consistent in applying reality.

Doesn’t seem to make sense: if I have a driving license (keep munus) but choose to renounce driving (renounce the ministerium) that doesn’t nullify my license (I’m still the Pope). Conversely, me just driving (excersising the ministerium) doesn’t automatically give me a license (I am not automatically Pope). Right?

My question is not about the topic you just covered my question is was he threatened or coerced to step down. We can't forget the day he became Pope his first words were pray for me that I do not flee out of fear from the wolves among me

There's a pharisaical bent to some approaches to Catholicism. I listen to this discussion on vacancy and all I can think is Jesus's command: "What is that to thee? Follow thou me." Lord, help me do better following You

Would now be a good time to point out the Dubia hasn't been answered?

I’m not a believer that Benedict was pope, but what about the issue of duress? If someone writes a proper resignation letter under duress is that a ground for it being not a valid resignation? Isn’t there church law regarding that point?

The live chat moderators went wayyy overboard. It was one of those examples how a good can turn bad by trying to do too much good. A good discussion couldn't even happen because things were just disappearing. They got so giddy with the delete key they (admittedly) deleted things they didn't mean to delete. I understand this is a hot topic, but for those of us who don't really know much about it, it was kind of off putting to see so much disappear. I saw some cheap shots against the moderators disappear (which is fair) but even PWA asked them to tone down the deletions and they didn't.

Matt, John Salza even though he has a Juris Doctorate are not typically referred to as "doctor". Lawyers don't typically refer to their Doctorate in law by the title.

So is Salsa claiming that a Pope that is physically and mentally unable to govern the church ceases to be Pope automatically? How about a Pope that willingly decides as Pope to simply not make decisions? He doesn't really think through his layman speculations. He seems more interested in pushing his own opinions out there as if they are doctrine.

We all have suspicions, especially with what Francis has done to the Church since he took over the Papacy.

Who is this guy? Maybe I missed his introduction.

Please interview someone with the other view point Matt.
People have too long tried to avoid scandal, to the detriment of the faithful.
I would love to see you interview Patrick Coffin!

No, absolutely and unequivocally no. The Principle of the Integral Good isn't there in regards to Benedict's resignation Letter. The Papacy is one, you cannot have two men in white. When you resign the Papacy you have to resign it properly (the Principle of the Integral Good has to be there, in other words; you can't resign part of the Papacy you have to resign the WHOLE of the Papacy). You cannot resign and still wear (1) the white cassock, (2) the Papal Ring or (3) the Red shoes. To say otherwise represents a complete Voluntarism regarding the way you treat the Papacy. It is like when you have one marriage that is ratified and consummated, and then you have a second so-called union of some sort (involving some of the same people) and when these people come up to receive Holy Communion whilst fulfilling the Marital Act (within the confines of the new Union), that's all it can be called a HERESY, a Dangerous Schizophrenic Pathology.

Regardless of the technical jargon mentioned here, the fact was that even though Pope Benedict resigned he was STILL POPE!!! He considered himself to be STILL POPE!!! We CAN NOT HAVE TWO POPES AT ONE TIME!!! I am a firm believer that after the passing of Pope Benedict the chair of Peter is officially empty. Each for their own. May Jesus Have mercy on us all.
