I appreciate how you answer it softly but with stern Truth. At least that's how I perceived it. Some folks don't want opinions, they want Biblical Facts, aka THE TRUTH!

GOD BLESS

Don’t ask the “ church” . Plenty of divorced and remarried “ elders “ and “pastors “. They would rather the local government define what a marriage is, not the Bible.

John the baptist was calling out Herod and he was not a believer

The question I want to ask is, " when did the law of divorce made abolished in scriptures?

1 Corinthians 7:15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

If the woman is married to an unbeliever she is not bound. She is free to marry a man who is a believer but her children would be unclean

No. It’s not that simple. Paul talks about how if the spouse is a non believer and leaves, then the believing spouse is not bound to the non believing spouse.

I'm curious about when people get married in a civil court as opposed to in a church.

I would think that a civil, non-Christian/non-Jewish marriage would not be a covenant.

I struggled with this topic when I was dating my then girlfriend who I later married. I wondered if it was OK to marry her and eventually thought it was OK because it seemed to not be a covenant.

It seemed like just a contract for her that had ended and also made me think of actors that say the words in movies; obviously they are not covenantally married just because they said the words and their characters got married in a movie.

Basically, neither she nor her ex were Christians when they got married in a courthouse. She divorced him because he was abusive to her family and abandoned her.

Unfortunately she turned out to have significant baggage and unforgiveness. Basically, every little dumb thing I did or didn't do added up, even after apologies, and after 5.5 years she left.

Now I'm wondering again, was her first marriage a covenant and does that make our marriage invalid? Can you have a covenant marriage with someone who was already married?

I thought our marriage was a covenant, and was willing to stick it out even though she treated me poorly for a long time. I didn't have a say in her walking, though and she said that she is filing the paperwork and I should get it in a few days. Now I even wonder if my marriage is a covenant.

This isn’t true if your spouse commits adultery you may remarry as it states in the Bible .

This guy is flawed....if a non believer departs let them go a brother or sister is no longer bound...gods marriage is se for a godly marriage...ans it does say as you were but now you are cleansed..so yes you are a heathen and wicked untill you repent..that's why it says if you are in christ you are a new creation...again not untill you repent and are born again..
Faulty teaching holds people to sin...
