Every time I walk up to the bank, I can feel the fish judging my rod.

Good stuff. I'll keep using my 6" medium St Croix Triumph from the bank. Lots of tree branches and small openings to fish at my lakes. Also, I'd slap the heck out of the water using a jerk bait while standing in the water in my hip boots using anything longer! I slap it now with the 6 footer!

you bet!!! Discovered the value in longer rods a while back myself, fishing smallmouth often. Longer casts, the rod fights the fish better than light line does, the longer, somewhat softer extra length helps keep fish pinned, and also better hooksets at the end of a long cast with a longer sweep of the lengthier rod. One different type of negative I didn't expect, but have come to concede to is I have a become a believer in diminishing returns when it comes to rod length and sensitivity. Although visual deflection in the tip area is enhanced on that longer, somewhat softer tip section, the actual sensitivity felt while holding your rod way down at the grip I believe diminishes some, once you exceed a certain length, probably not much longer than 7'0, but that's my opinion in having a pretty large sample size of quality spinning rods in various lengths up to 7'6.

Thanks once again Ty. This vid was BURSTING with excellent information that I’ve never heard anywhere else. My spinning rods are going back into sevice and I may pick up some more. This was great for a totally land based angler. Thanks for breaking it down for ALL of us. 😍. You ARE the 💣❗️

I have a collection of spinning rods, most of which are 5-6ft. They lay down well behind the seat of my truck and catch less trees and overhangs when kayak and bank fishing. I mostly ultra finesse on 4-6lb line, but my heavier setups are 7ft with 20-30lb braid and mono leader. All spinning, I have no patience for birds nests.

Another factor about any rod length is based on the user's height. Sometimes going longer/shorter isn't always the case.

As usual, good practical information Tyler. Thank you. I’ve learned so much from you. If you’re ever in Michigan this old 56 year old man would love to fish with you.

I set down a spinning combo in favor of the baitcasters a few years ago. Just recently I picked up a spinning combo that i really like and now i go to the lakes, rivers and ponds with two rods. a bait caster and a spinning combo everything I have in my tackle box can be tossed on those two rod combos! its an amazing feeling both with braid and a clear leader of some sort.

As a bank angler who relys sometime on sight fishing the 6'6 spinning rod is most reliable and accurate casting

I always have a spinning rod on my kayak sometimes 2 with 2 baitcasters. Wacky Rig, and now I’ve added a bitsy bug jig on 8lb line. As usual sir lots of good knowledge and time invested thank you 🙏.

What power do you like for a 7'6" spinning rod? ML, M or MH. I fish mostly t rigged dropshots and swimbaits

Basically my technique. Carbon rod six and a half foot, 8 lb fluorocarbon line, no weight, at least 8 inch worm, large EWG hook. I'm not that dedicated as far as what brand worm, but I pick one that I can feel has a heavier weight in my hand and then use a large hook for extra weight if needed. The heavier worm and have your hook gives me the casting distance I desire.
Also the larger the ewg hook it's throat. Also the big curve in the hook seems to keep the hook from being thrown out of its mouth when it tries to get rid of it.👍🏻
6 1/2 foot rod helps on casting around trees and bushes from the bank, anything longer in your going to catch branches all day long. 👀
Also the shorter rod really helps when walking through brush and trees, anything longer you will be fighting through the brush and tree limbs on the way to the pond or lake.
👍🏻

i use a 9 foot spinning rod built off a gloomis blank. ML, moderate action. casts a mile. run spy bait and maribou jig on that rod exclusively.
