Notice how thick tesla wireless charger is, it is the answer. Heat was the main problem, they wanted it way thinner but was simply too hard to pull off and it was too late to fix.

People already did this, and every product that claims to do what apples does, overheats and usually fails. Im sure this product wont be any different. there's no way of getting past the energy loss to heat.

I wouldn’t be surprised if applied just went: “oh it’s not working? Make it work!” -few months to a year or so later- “is it done? No? Still not working? YOURE FIRED!”
The project manager probably just went to Tesla, got hired there, proposed the idea and just ran with it.

It is cool that wireless charging is possible, it just has no advantage to wired. Still needs a wire for the charging pad, and you require devices to have physical contact with the pad to get charged.

Omg I was just thinking about this the other day! For no reason, I randomly remembered how wireless chargers were gonna be the next Great Leap Forward, and how they were gonna be in all cars and all tables, and phones wouldn’t have plugs anymore … and then we just … stopped hearing about them?? They went away for no reason?? Thank you for explaining what happened

What they ended up building to replace AirPower was MagSafe wireless charging, by the way.

I feel MagSafe is the logical workaround for AirPower’s failure. The problem was always alignment of the coils.
AirPower’s multitude of overlapping coils worked, but caused the charging pad to overheat. MagSafe just forces the coils of the device and charger to align, eliminating the need for multiple coils.
While the Tesla charging pad looks cool, I feel it’s superfluous, just like AirPower.
