Quite glad I never got into graded coins by the sound of it.

I buy expensive coins only on Christmas and my birthday for myself to keep in my private collection but the whole year I only buy bullion that's closest to spot price.

I’m waiting for Anacs to adopt the “Sal’s Slurp Scale.” Coins can be graded by a number of slurps multiplied by the length of the slurps.

Sounds like it's a long term investment to attract young people.

Dealing with NGC is just a bad idea to begin with... They do a crappy job of grading often. If they wreck your coin you pretty much have no compensation.

Well whatever. Numismatics are maybe sketchy to start with. Kinda like sports betting. I admit I don't know much about slabbed.

SAL Very good Video . I agree on the Grading MS70 or 10 .
I like the Sheldon scoring . I don't buy Graded Bullion coins.
I feel that Collectable coins are a good way to buy coins .
A graded coin, there is no Question on the grade :-))

All of our older MegaRed books red books other gray sheet all info in the past will be kind of confusing and I always said an ms69 and Ms 70 I never could see that much difference just in the the Graders opinion as you said grading is subjective you can have a ms69 and resubmit and it will come back in Ms 70 which meant hundreds of dollars in the value of a coin compared to a MS 69 and the new collectors coming into collecting will really be confused

Modern coin grading altogether is a bad idea, when the only thing that matters is the top MS70. Oh well, if there were no buyers for MS70's, they wouldn't grade them. Someone is buying them for the premium.

Like # 140 The only grading system that I have is my Honda’s coffee ☕️ scale, (1) Folgers black silk (2)Tim Hortons (3) Walmart Great Value medium roast.

SAL you have some of the best stuff to look at in your videos. Your stack is most impressive. See you on your Sunday night show. 👍

This is about expansion of the market to bring NEW collectors who collect other collecticbles and are use to 10 point system . Whether we loke it or not this is going to shift the market good or bad.

Hey, I didn't know that you collect rare coins too, coins that are MS65 to MS70.

NGC is a pain, i had nothing but problems, time to go back to PCGS, even though they are no better.
NGC is great if you are a Whale, but the regular Schmo is screwed. under grading is absurd!
also contact with them is a waste.

I studied the Sheldon scale and became quite good at nailing down the grades of Morgan's, peace dollars, and just about any of the older coins with the exception of incused Indians. Those are tough to get a handle on. Modern coins are impossible for me to use the Sheldon scale and run the numbers to come up with a grade before submission. Adding a new system for modern coins will do nothing to solve that problem. Let's face it. There are MS 69s out there that look better than some MS 70. I personally think it's a waste of time and money to grade bullion coins. Even with collector items, it's a roll of the dice to have them graded! If you don't receive a 70(or a 10) you've wasted your money.

I could not agree more with you on the grading of modern coins. It is a cash cow for the TPG companies. My collection is primarily coins from the 1800's with some early-mid 1900's. I go to coins shows and watch various auctions and it's just the worst have to sort thru the numerous modern cents, nickels, and quarters. But hey that's my preference and we all have our own right? I wish there was a period of time before a coin could be submitted for grading. I could be wrong but thought there once was a time (with one or some of the TPGs) when they didn't grade moderns. Anyway, just my opinion one those. Also on the new NGCX, not sure what to expect there. I guess NGC couldn't go all in just in case of an epic fail so moderns are a nice trial to see how it goes. Unfortunately they don't have PCGS, ANACS, or ICG on board with them and CAC is coming into the picture in 2023. Maybe it's because PCGS has the upper hand on them in preference and resale values at the major auctions and CAC is coming that NGC has to stir the pot and try something new for a spark. I get the system with cards and comics but it's a tough change on coins after so many years.
Keep the great videos coming! All are entertaining and informative.

You've pretty much summed up my experiences of grading Sal. I hate the grip on the market in terms of price and desirability given what look to me like a guessing game in terms of coin faults and imperfections.
