I was born with the “I might fail better not try” gene and I gotta say I find both this video and all your others just incredibly inspiring!

That looks really great especially for a first time. If you think it looks splotche or uneven a second coat of paint always helps!

Pro tip for painting walls: always do a second coat. The first will look fine until you put stuff back and realize all the old paint is bleeding through 😩😂🥴

Ive painted a lot of walls and at first I kept ending up with weird splotchy areas and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong until I looked up tips on how to do it properly. My mistake was that I was loading up the roller and then kept painting until the roller didnt paint anymore. To do it properly, you need to load the roller, and work in small sections that are roughly 3'x3' or 3× the width of your roller and then reload the roller for the next section. Use a vertical motion when rolling (up and down or vise versa).

Some tips for using a brush are to tap it into the paint a few times (dont dip too high to where it reaches the metal part) then wipe the sides against the can or paint receptacle to remove excess paint from the sides, this will help you get clean brush strokes and works well for getting clean edges.

When using painter's tape, the tape is rarely ever perfect and tends to let the paint bleed under it. To achieve a perfectly crisp line, paint the initial paint color over the tape, allow that to dry, then paint the desired color over that and when its dry you can peel the tape to reveal the crisp line.

Lastly, there are rollers and brushes made of different materials. There are different kinds of paint and usually, you can read the instructions on your paint can to see what material is recommended to use with your chosen paint. For rollers, the nap size is different depending on the texture of the surface you want to paint like for example a highly textured wall would require a larger nap.

You removed the outlet plate and taped the walls which is more than a lot of landlords do lol so WELL DONE!!👍💖

edit: thanks for the likes!!

Just a tip to help - a painting stick makes it take so much less time and uses less elbow grease. I used to paint with just the roller until I met my husband who introduced me to the stick and it was a game changer!

It doesn’t matter how good of a painter you are, most paints need at least 2-3 layers of paint before they look good. Unless you have drips or you painted where you weren’t supposed to, you can save it and make it look good

I can not express enough how much joy it gave me that you removed the outlet covers.🤩 So many people just tape them off. 😟
Also! Thanks for being such a beautiful human! Your content always brightens my day!

The landlord special had me rolling 😂😂 although you should have painted over the light switches and switch plates to truly achieve that look!

I have so many fond childhood memories of painting my room with my sisters when we were growing up!!

It was really hard though and we always messed up 😂

Having watched the way my dad worked in construction I would say you did a great job, especially in preparing the area 😊

I have painted multiple walls and rooms because I'm a good friend who wants to hang out (and be fed 😉) and let me tell you, it always sucks and you always feel like you have no idea what you're doing.

Your technique is actually great!
After taping the ceiling and baseboards "cut" it all in like you did but also do the corners of the room, the outlets/lightswitches and anything that you can't get close enough to with a roller.

Your "W" technique is great. It'll work better as a smaller section, though. I usually "draw/roll" a "9" shape in a 2-3ft section on the wall then use that paint on the roller to finish the rest of the 2-3ft section and then I repeat that process along the walls.

Pro tip: when using painters tape run something with a blunt end along the length if tape you've laid to help "seal" it to the surface, preventing paint seepage.

Well done, Tori!
