Paul Atreides leads nomadic tribes in a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis. Dune is an upcoming epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. The film is an international co-production of Canada, Hungary, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which will cover roughly the first half of the book. The film stars an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

Going straight to IMAX for this, then straight home to watch it on HBO max

I read La Presse article. Some little random info that caught my attention:
-He describes his relationship with Warner as good right now. He is still angry with the HBO Max decision, that was for him like a stab in the back, but feels like Warner has been trying to repair their relationship since then, putting a lot of energy to promote the movie and he is happy with their efforts and with them choosing to have the premiere at the Venice Festival.
-He said all this HBO mess happened before they say the completed movie and he noticed a change of attitude when they finally saw the movie. :)
-He said Christopher Nolan became an ally/friend who gave him support and advice following the HBO Max debacle(he called him and his wife Chris and Emma so I guess they developed some kind of friendship).
-He fully supports Scarlett Johansson's lawsuit against Disney
-When questioned about Momoa's comment that he wanted to see a 5 hours long version, Denis said Jason Momoa (whom he described as exuberant and bigger than life) saw the movie 4 times and after each time has called Denis to say how happy he is with it. Which bodes well ;) But the theatrical version is going to be the definite/final version.
-About Timothée, he said that he felt a bit like a father, since Timothée is about the same age as his own children and it was his first big production in the main role, so Denis took him under his wings. It helped that they both speak french so it created even more complicity, they could be in their little francophone bubble and say anything they wanted.
-About the "Chani is the protagonist" comment, he said that it's moments like these that make him realize his limits with the english language. He mispoke and meant to say Zendaya will have a bigger role but Paul is still the main character. So, it's confirmed, from Denis himself.

Praying the fans turn out to see the movie. I so want Part 2 made an released. Any scenes cut from Part 1 must be re-edited into the Director's DVD release

As you know, to fully understand Herbert's Dune you must go at least trough the first trilogy. Although the the ecology, capitalisme, colonialism, religion and other stuff it's developed in the books, I think y that the key message of Herbert's work is do not trust or blind follow charismatic messianic leaders. And that is written /shown from Messiah of Dune ahead. So if DV Wants to show the audiences the hole picture and not just Paul's Hero journey, it must deliver the audience at least Dune Messiah. We should have in mind that Paul it is not the real Hero of the saga, and under his rule genocide spread across the imperium. That's what makes dune different from any other sci fi epic released till today.

In many European countries, the movie will release around 16 September. This will give the movie some box office head start, before it is released on HBO Max and other countries. No word yet on the Chinese release I think, that could also be a big factor to secure DUNE Part Two. I hope the Dune fans will all come out to the theater and bring friends and family.

Interesting breakdown of the latest images! I must say, after hearing you bring up the topic of the next parts of this great story, that I am somewhat expecting the padishah emperor character to be more powerful than the baron harkonnen. Also, Feyd as the anti-Paul will be great to see. Now i am wondering who will be cast in the role of the padishah emperor. Thanks for posting this latest vid! I am counting the days to head over to the nearest Imax theater.

Shortly after signing with Legendary Villeneuve had told La Presse in Montréal that perhaps there could be a third movie, but after that he believed Legendary was more likely to envision a multi season TV series in the vein of GOT (in the sense of adapting each book in turn, and in terms of scale), first for the Leto II story and then for the Miles/Siona story, with the character of Duncan unifying it all. He said he’d probably like to be involved with the pilot and bible, so it’s a continuation of his vision of the Dune universe.

Not a whole lot of time after he said all this it was announced that Legendary had asked him to act as exec producer for their other dune-related TV show.

Nobody will ever get Dune right. I look forward to seeing the movie but Im really not hearing anything that feels like the book. Have to wait and see I guess... Great commentary and thanks for the video.

I was really glad to hear that DV did not scrap Feyd altogether or merge him with Rabban, but will probably bring him in for the second movie...He's such an important character and an explicit contrast figure to Paul and I can't wait to see who will be cast in the role. I personally would favor Nicolas Hoult or perhaps Bill Skarsgard in the role - I hope Denis is clever enough not to shoehorn a musician in and we would see Harry Styles in the role...It should be a good actor who's also a match for Timothee.

Loved your break down... the idea he may do children of dune as well is exciting... I can never find a copy of that uploaded... I think SciFi's adaptation of that story was very good in comparison to their first attempt.
I read this book in 70' ... always perceived/ imagined the onithopter as a dragonfly... their design is amazingly similar to my imagined craft... weird note: just saw a video about the physicality of the dragonfly. I'd be interested to see, in the movie, if they mention how the design works... a dragonfly uses, unlike most insects, 4 independent muscle groups (most insects use a pumping motion based in their abdomen to flex the wings up in down) to interdependently move the wings, resulting in 3d flight... x, y, and z ... and since they possess 360 spherical vision... nothing gets past them... also: they have an almost 95% success in kill ratio... easily the best hunter in all the insect, not to mention animal, world... kudos.
