One EASY Tip to Improve Your Punching Accuracy

Here is a quick fighting tip that I use to improve my punch accuracy. Even though it's a simple trick, there is some science and anatomy to back up how and why it works. And remember that the most powerful punch is not necessarily the perfect punch -- focus more on precision, and you WILL land more punches.

Im fascinated by mma, but you saved my life specifically, if it wasnt for you i would have been severely injured or killed last year when i got stabbed by a doped up mugger, im not trying to boost myself but i somehow beat the shit out of him luckily, and he was much bigger and more aggressive, and had a weapon, and i came out with only scars and nerve damage on my arms from defending the attack, me being a tall skinny dude i was lucky i had the knowledge youve granted me on my side as a long time viewer of your channel, ever since that day ive almost obsessively been trying to stay mindful of self defense, i mean i was shown first hand that all these years watching and learning from you, it wasnt for nothing and it actually saved my life literally. So i cant voice my appreciation enough but im in a fucked up neighborhood and ive been a target more then once recently, and im wondering if this krav maga place in my town would be worth the time in terms of self defense. Stand up specifically. Can krav maga be a useful start? Im 19.

Something I've used in the past is placing a small piece of tape on the bag and make my middle knuckle hit it. I also use a BOB dummy and focus on hitting specific spots. It's extremely important to keep training your accuracy at all times. I'm a new YouTuber making self defense videos who is planning on putting out 30 videos in my first 30 days so maybe I'll consider doing one on what I do for accuracy.

Wow great stuff, will definitely try that.
Here's what I do to practice my accuracy: I shadowbox with my gymnastic rings (well actually only one ring). So basically I just set one of them at head height move around and throw punches in the hole. Now I'm not throwing power punches here: I'm focusing on speed and accuracy. So the goal is never to touch the ring. And it's actually quite fun cause I can swing the ring a little bit, move around and throw a hook, duck, turn, throw another hook while moving backward... At first I really sucked but now man, you just get good at it. And I don't even close my fist when I throw: the hand is barely curved on itself, just relaxed, like when shadowboxing. I haven't been to spar with anyone in a while but I'm really curious to see how my accuracy will have improved doing that.

In jack Dempsey's championship fighting book, he explains how you should aim with the 3rd knuckle rather the conventional two knuckles. Try this for yourself: put your two first knuckles flat on a wall, then put your third knuckle on the wall only, what you will notice with putting the third knuckle on the wall is that all knuckles are touching the wall when you do this, similarly to someone's face, also the damage disperses better making it more effective and safer at the same time

There’s a plethora of great fighting vlogs on YouTube but this hands down is the best, there’s so much content and you explain them so I’ve had ppl ask me if I go to a boxing gym etc etc and I’m like nope I do it at home watching “fight tips” and their jaw drops! Love your videos !!

Great video! For an alternate perspective: check out Championship Fighting by Jack Dempsey; he advocated punching through the ring finger using a 3 knuckle strike. He maintained this is how to avoid a boxer's fracture. The .pdf of the book is out there online.

Hey, Shane, this tip with the pointing is so right! Even if we look at the different styles, we can see this. For example in wing chun where they use vertical punches, it is like pointing when holding your hand close to you. From other hand- when we point something, keeping our hand away from us, its position is horizontal and we have here boxing, MT and others.
