I've always tied off the tails on my figure 8 splice.... just because it makes it look better and no sharp wire ends sticking out. I do strain it pretty well before tying off the tails. Thanks for the great testing... as usual.

Hi Tim. Before the days off being shown how to tie ht wire or YouTube for educational videos like yours. I started joining the wire with a reef knot or a sailors knot(whichever you like to call it)and tie off the ends when the wire is pulled. I would be curious to know how this would hold on the test bench. I've definitely done this hundreds of times if not thousands. I don't believe I've ever seen one to go at the knot.

Hi Tim, love the videos. I have tried to email you but it doesnt seem to be able to send.
I would like you to try a bit different type of knot on the test bench. it is a speed knot but wrapping the tight loop tails towards the direction of the wire the wrong way to the normal speed knot. I think its a stronger knot than the normal speed knot but i cant be sure until it has been tested.

Do me a favour Tim, and do a strain test with those colored tubes you use to differentiate between the 2 wires; and see if that any makes any difference at breaking strain.

Have you changed your mind on the figure 8, in another clip you said it's only good for joining wire and not straining.

Couldn't you just bend the tail( scrap ends ) on the original figure 8 back through the knot instead of a piece of wire
