Just so everyone is aware, the equation R = 2GM / c2 was a formula developed by Karl Schwarzschild, a German physicist in 1916. Not to take away from Big Al, but it's important to give credit where credit is due.

There are also lots of other theorists than Einstein and Hawking -- for example, Schwarzchild, Chandasekhar especially are extremely important to this theory.

Actually(!), a post-doc named Jacob Bekenstein came up with this in 1972 and sent it to Hawking. Hawking said no f-ing way in response. Then Hawing double checked the kid's work and said maybe. After talking to the Russians, who had similar ideas about rotating black holes, Hawking finally published a paper in 1974 describing Bekenstein's idea with the Russian's math, but Hawking gets all the credit and now we call it "Hawking Radiation"

Einstein recognized the photoelectric effect but it was not based on quantum mechanics which was developed later. Einstein published 3 historic papers on physics in 1905.

Schwarzschild Radius of an object is the radius when an object is shrunk into where that object becomes a black hole and Hawking radiation is the radiation that black holes emit (as Hawking discovered it)
