Watching this on Opera GX gave me a weird sense of irony.

Web Browsers are one type of software that NEEDS to always be open source. No exceptions. It's just too important.

Just a reminder they were originally an independent company, until Kunlun bought them so they weren't lying and also almost everything that they do that's supposedly illegal is already done by Google.

remember kids: if literally anything is advertised as "gaming" you should automatically assume it is a scam

Note that Opera can easily just...not honor proxy settings for geolocation checks. Fiddler relies on the fact that most programs honor the proxy settings, which it uses to get network traffic. Anything that doesn't use the proxy settings simply won't show up.

Additionally, that makes the geolocation more accurate. No proxy settings means that there's no middleman that can interfere with where the geolocation actually is.

I used Opera 10--15 years ago, when they were independent, and developed their own browser engine (like Mozilla still do today). It was sad when Opera shifted to just being a Chromium reskin, but I never thought they would fall this far, so disappointing.

but they have a funny social media manager :(

Although Opera GX "removed" the geolocation site from their requests, depending on the specifications of their timestamp grabber, they could also get a precise whereabouts of your location.

I don’t think I’ll stop using GX. I bet that big companies like google already track everything there is to track about me.

The laws that Opera follow have to carry through all of the territories laws if they allow their software to be used in that region. So, if I were to use Opera GX in the US (which I am) the company is required to follow all regional laws, which means that they cannot sell your data if your in the US or any regions that prohibit it. Also, the company you specified that owned Opera is kind of like how Microsoft owns Minecraft but they are located in different places. Opera is not spyware if you follow that concept.
(still got a sub tho)

Opera was my main browser for years until I recently switched to Firefox following the announcement on Google's future ban on adblock software on Chrome-based browsers. I'd been questioning my decision as of late due to Opera's mobile browser being better than Firefox's, but now I'm absolutely not going back.

Luckily for Australians, the fine and grounds to sue against Opera for doing this are stupidly high, and Opera will lose every case, regardless of country origin laws. Some guy in Australia could take it to court about user safety, privacy and more and win, sueing opera and basically winning a free lottery.

Opera used to be a good company with a lot of innovative products. Opera Mini was *THE* best browser for mobile phones back in the day (as in pre-iPhone/Android days) and this carried on with Opera for Smartphones (as in Symbian/Windows Mobile/Palm smartphones) and even used to have their own social media platform called My Opera (this probably explains the unrestricted use of UGC term).

This was befvore they were bought out by a Chinese company and were an independent Norwegian company. They really were a good browser.

All of this bad stuff happened after they were bought out by a Chinese company.

As soon as the Chinese bought out Opera, a lot of engineers, including the founders of Opera, left the company to develop their own browser, Vivaldi. Which is pretty much doing trying to do everything Opera did.

They don't have a Vivaldi GX, but if you want a browser that's like Opera but without all the shady shit. Vivaldi is a good choice.

It's really ironic, that you guys complain about data on YouTube. Google already sold it to China, for the prize of operating there. You can use even the most secure gecko browsers, but it does not matter if you logged on YouTube.
