Yes, Opera GX Still Sucks: Re-Reviewing this Evil Browser

Hello everybody and welcome to Bull Technology. In January of 2022, I posted a video review of Opera GX—the gaming focused browser by the infamous Opera Software Corporation. It appears that I had one of the earlier reviews of GX and as far as I can tell, mine was one of the first critical reviews. Well over the past couple years the video has racked up quite a few views (as well as dislikes), and I feel it is time to re-review this infamous browser and answer this question: What’s changed is it worse, better, and is Opera GX still a terrible browser?

Videos featured in this review:

"'Gaming Web Browser'… R U kidding me?" by @LinusTechTips

At this point, the only way to not have your data stolen on the internet is to get off of the internet.

I find it baffling that a browser “built for gaming” takes such a massive hit on ur computer’s performance and that’s the biggest reason i don’t use it anymore

Bro pulled a 50% dislike rate just by trying to protect people

I think that people misunderstand the "value your privacy" statement. It doesn't mean that they will make sure your privacy is safe, it means that they understand the price value of it which usually leads to them happily selling it to someone.
Also, anyone who understand browsers and how websites work, would never use it as their main browser.

a nitpick you missed is that 90% of people will have no idea what to put the resource limiters on

People install a "gaming" browser without questioning why its promoted literally everywhere - a browser. And then they dislike videos pointing out its spyware.

Honestly, the most problematic and suspicious thing about Opera and Opera GX at the moment is just how few videos are available discussing the browser's bad side in any depth. I tried to find more about it recently and all I could find was less than 10, before continuing to scroll down only brought up completely unrelated videos.

I stopped using it and uninstralled it, and the very next day, I was flooded with scam messages and scammers approaching me on various different website. So yes, it not only 99% sold my info, but also many other security concerned stuff like locations, passwords and stuff

They really think that sponsoring every youtuber on the planet and a cute anime vtuber girl could save them from the shit show that is the company runs opera.

"Opera doesn't have any options to automatically clear history or anything like that. Only entries older than 3 months get deleted."
Who is the fucking prison worthy degen that thought that was a good idea?

The old Opera Software, back when it was an exclusively Norwegian company was a huge innovator in the Browser space. Browser Tabs? Their idea! Integrated manual ad block feature, tiny resource-light browser for low end devices, integrated TTS... But just being good doesn't win you the browser war -- you have to be the one that sets the page compatibility standards!

The true idealistic successor of "old Opera" is Vivaldi. The only browser with an engine whose features aren't dictated by Google -- Firefox.

I just can't really take the privacy concerns seriously when it really just boils down to, "they're doing what American companies do BUT THEY'RE CHINESE SO ITS BAD"

The fact that the penguin's operating system doesn't even have a native build of Opera GX for it should say something. Mostly because if it ain't there then there is something really concerning that security experts would catch immediately and completely shut the entire operation down.

I remember uninstalling Opera GX, then all of my accounts getting broken into. For legal reasons I am not acussing Opera of anything, BUT I think that they sold my info on the black market, after uninstalling GX. REMEMBER that that is just a theory... A WHY OPERA GX IS theory

2:56 If you’re going to summarize the EULA, you need to do it correctly. This section clearly states that you can disable the referenced data collection in the settings, which is something that I want to know when watching a video like this. It also says that the data will be sent as a randomized ID so it is anonymous. If you’re doing a review it needs to be thorough.

Reading EULAs is a place a lot of people mess up because the agreement will say something that makes people freak out, and come to realize it’s something that literally all similar companies do and it’s for some benign reason. Or worse, it’s something that doesn’t even apply to most people because it’s only there to comply with laws in China or other specific countries. I want a reviewer to be thorough in not just reading a EULA but understanding what it means, why it’s there, and how it affects the end user.
