I remember walking right past George on the streets of Montreal and not even recognizing him until a block later. Dude was wearing a puffy jacket and couldn’t have been more than 5”10. I’m positive it was him because he was entering a crazy overpriced Italian dance bar lol with a bunch of lambos and porches parked on St Laurent

I was obsessed with Bruce Lee and practiced moves from his movies when I was a kid. Got into tae kwon do, wing chun, kickboxing and JKD. I'm too old now and watch lots of MMA fights. It's always in my mind and moves are natural. What I'm mostly thankful for at this senior age is the core and balance it's given it wouldn't hurt fighting for that last turkey leg in the old folks home!

That is something that is sometimes lost in MMA. I stopped watching The Ultimate Fighter reality show, once they started pissing in each other's beds on a regular basis.

These guys epitomise what I love about the traditional arts, especially Karate, and what I really don't like about MMA in general. Respect. You see guys enter the cage who've come from this background and they respect the other fighter, especially when they beat them. Machida is a perfect example. Such a gentleman even if he just knocked the other guy out, always bows and goes to make sure they're ok.

I'd have to say I also miss the respect. No one gets choked up at a great display of trash talk. The tears come with honor and respect.

as a boy I bought a book about karate for self defence. 30 years later its still on my book shelve. There is a story of Tsukahara Bokuden and Mutekatsu Ryu. I love the story, it shows the true spirit of a master/warrior
