Hitchens was an extraordinary thinker and even more extraordinary speaker! I wish there were more humans like him. I’ve called myself an atheist from a young age (now approaching 60) and when I listen to Christopher, I see the religious as blinkered narcissists with a fear of death and a penchant for dictating other’s lives.

Only knowledge is demonstrable. If one could show one's beliefs to be true, then that belief would cross over into fact. Those that claim they know there is a god is fooling themself and trying to fool you.

Establishing that there must be a God is incredibly short of establishing that God is Jesus, or that anything in the Bible is true.
A creator God could be like ANYTHING, and is very unlikely to care if we touch our peepees.

Stupid people create stupid gods. Intelligent people don't create gods in their own image.

...And that which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

I enjoyed the fact that Hitch was a major party animal, and an intellectual at the same time. He was the Socrates of our time. Hitch was so cool!

If you have to believe a priori, you might defend whatever someone has convinced you is true.

I watched a long winded film about Pharos and Israelites and and miracles oh and locusts all of which proves god exists, I've been waiting for the sequel where god saved the Jews from the Nazis, actually thinking about it, so far it has been a very long An extra couple of thousand years of prayer, devotion and paying the priests must be worth something? I bet god gave Hitler a bad hair day, but history has just forgotten.

Hence why I worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster. He boiled for our sins. Everyone please bow your heads and join me in "Oh heavenly Flying Spaghetti Monster forgive those who doubt you and forgive those who worship all other fake gods". Amen!!

Having to defend your Faith at all just says there’s nothing there behind you.

It is odd how city-states discovered that they needed laws against taking what isn't yours, and against unaliving people, some 8000 years before Moses had his peyote-induced hallucination of a talking bush.

William Lane Craig's response to "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" is that it is demonstrably false. I strongly disagree with him.

Imagine him debating some of the "Experts" standing in the speakers corner in London, now that I would pay good money to see.

At the age of 7, with my hands red and swollen from the leathering my 'religious instructor' had just given them, I wondered why an all-powerful god that decided we needed forgiveness (for no reason I understood then nor understand now) couldn't simply ... forgive?

As Ricky Gervaise put it - even at that young age, I was an atheist within the hour. Though I didn't declare it until I was old enough to throw a punch - those guys didn't just have 'right' on their side - they had leather straps too.

I simply couldn't escape from one single idea. If we could be kind to each other, we surely didn't need a god, even if such existed. And if we couldn't be kind to each other, what possible use were all the imagined gods in the universe?

73 years later, with the end beckoning, I remain convinced that all - ALL - religion is the product of power-hungry fraudsters, offering little beyond collection plates and pathetic threats of hellfire to people who refuse to bow. In fact - equally convinced that few religiots actually believe in their nonsense either.

Morality or some form of morality is necessary for even the smallest groups to coexist. It has nothing to do with religion but everything to do with cohabitation.
