This is nonsense. When people ask for extraordinary evidence for extraordinary claims they are not necessarily being emotional nor are they going to deny by default. This is not an honest approach to the subject. I am a Christian and I find this whole approach of pretending to know the other person's attitude and beliefs and state of mind offensive. I work in caring professions and if I took this person's attitude to my clients I would necessarily be causing havoc and pain in their lives and would correctly lose my job for that behaviour.
If a claim is extraordinary and the person asking for evidence is someone who needs evidence, then it might be wise to accept that the evidence for things like the Resurrection are less than strong.
I personally would not go anywhere NDEs as an evidence base. I think they add nothing to the discussion.

Frank, If someone came to you and said they had a friend who was raised from the dead, could perform miracles and was the son of the Egyptian god Ra, how much evidence would they need to provide to convince you they spoke the truth? ..Now you know what extraordinary means.

If you have faith and evidence, which do you lead with?

I'm glad I left faith in the same box I jumped out of. It was my Exodus.

And now I see and respect the humanity of others.

I only want to apply the same research and study to the claims of the Bible as I do to every other piece of information. That doesnโ€™t feel too extraordinary but religious people seem to think so

โ€œIn order to accept your claim. I require extraordinary evidence. Which is evidence I will deny no matter how strong it is.โ€
This is a logically incoherent statement. Habermassโ€™ cultural chauvinism never fails to surprise me. That one person could be so deeply in a bubbleโ€ฆ reflects poorly on humanity.

So forget extraordinary evidence. How about ANY evidence? To try and excuse yourself from giving evidence with the excuse that I won't listen anyway is ridiculous. There is no evidence and I've listened to this guy multiple times. He never says anything. Why is he talking about NDE's? What does that have to do with the resurrection of Jesus?

I worked over 17 years in children's hospitals as a pediatric LPN on many different specialty units. I've seen both tragedies and miracles.... seen alot and enough to know there is so much more to the unseen realm than some folks realize or confess.

If NDEs are such great evidence do they also prove Hinduism or Islam? People raised in muslim countries tend to have Islam related NDEs and people in India tend to have Hindu themed NDEs.

I think Habermas was unfair in this answer. He claims NDE is wonderful evidence and if you dare to disagree, you are being emotional. I think Habermas is rather condescending of doubters and dismissive of the question.

I have no idea what evidence it would take to convince me. But if God were real, he would know what it would take. Still waiting.

NDEs, really? Most Hindus will see Vishnu and get a glimpse of their future life. Most Catholics will see Mary. And most other Christians will see Jesus. Maybe Vishnu, Jesus, and Mary all have an agreement on who they will visit when someone's brain is being deprived of oxygen.

Problem is people many times donยดt know real meaning of word "evidence" and are confusing it with something, what evidence isnยดt and where REAL evidence is, think there is not evidence... interpretation isnยดt facts, and facts arenยดt interpretation.

As an atheist, *I know as a fact* of reported cases in India of people who claim to experience the afterlife, meeting the God Ganesh, I know of cases of Buddist claiming to have reincarnated from a past life, and I know cases in Japan of people claiming to meet their ancestors and/or a Kami(protector spirit or God) in the Shinto religion who spoke to them, and I know of cases of Muslims claiming to have met their prophet Muhammad who spoke to them from heaven. *So how is the Christian claim any more truth than any of these?* Just because Christians said so? then you have proven your so-called "evidence" is very much lacking.

if I claim that I saw a unicorn on my way to work, then I would be expected to produce stronger evidence in order to verify that claim than if I claimed that I saw a horse. This is because there is substantial evidence showing that horses exist, but no meaningful evidence which shows that unicorns exist, which makes the latter claim extraordinary

This can be subjective but I think we could easily come to a consensus on what would constitute as extraordinary

Couldn't agree more, the meaning of "extraordinary evidence" depends on the individual and their beliefs. Some people are willing to believe the "mountains" of bad quality evidence presented for macro- evolution, but yet reject the evidence presented for Christianity. Ideology plays a big part in what people are willing to accept.

Please cite 1 pier reviewed paper that has an NDE person explain what is above them on a shelf, writen down on a paper above them, or other such test that has been done like that. Let me know when you have that.
