Breaking Dynamic Range | CANON R5C vs RED EPIC vs CANON R

A quick down and dirty couple of real scenario bad shooting situations to see where dynamic range breaks with my newest camera, the Canon EOS R5 C. I vs it is against my RED EPIC DRAGON and see how far behind my original model CANON EOS R stacks up against these higher bit depth and higher dynamic range cameras. The Canon R5 C is tested in both RAW and XF-AVC and with and without POST NOISE REDUCTION.

I just realised that the R5C RAW has a bit too much gain in the RED channel and the blue channel is pulled down, adding that reddish/yellowish hue to the image.

Super helpful tests! I've never even used RAW on my R5C. I thought the XF-AVC was mainly the way to go. Will have to give it a shot and see.

R5c kills it. Just a great image. I have an R5c and 2 C70s. The more I shoot and the more I from other creatives the happier I am with my choices. There’s a lot to choose from nowadays so being happy with what you picked is a blessing. The battery was the only disappointment with the R5c and that’s an easy workaround. Good work bud. Oh, and I have an eosr too. Funny. Dependable.

Am I seeing crop from Eos R5C fx avc 4k? At 8k it seems wider.

Hey Ash, really enjoying your R5c content! I've been shooting on it this past week and had to record a continuous walk through a woods similar to your background here. In general how are you exposing your footage? Are you preserving the highlights and lifting shadows in post? I found I over-exposed at times. The walk through the forest was tough as there were really dark spots and really bright spots.

I am getting disappointed in how people judge film cameras. Yes the R5C has better resolution and, but the RED clearly looks like a Cinema Camera. It just looks more Filmic. There is extra processing to look more filmic. I am a film snob. I love silver nitrate.

Hm... I am on the fence on how you made these comparisons, it would be better if you could simply show full zoomed in spots of all the cameras at the same shot to show us which camera did the best and which did the worst and why and show us spots of noise that some cameras did better than others and also add text to the video when doing comparisons instead of just talking the info because we get lost trying to figure out which is which and which did better all while you are in there doing a hand dance distracting us :D.

No shade really, I am saying this because you have the gear and if you want you can make a hell of a video comparing the footage that most people can't.
