Responding to some criticism of my favorite game.

EarthBound is a really bad game. I only played 2 hours and I didn't talk to anyone. It was horrible

I like how he talks about giygas as if he got to giygas. dude literally talked to nobody, died and called the game “grindy” because he had to kill 2 enemies to level up enough so he could kill a enemy that’s a little tougher. I, myself, am not far into the game, in fact I just got Jeff, but I can say with a burning passion this game is fun. There are some parts, such as the hospital mechanic with your friends being annoying sometimes, but it’s still just a fun experience. And the graphics ARE good!!!! The style is lovely and the work put into little details is great.

Oh yeah, also he said “I rest my case.” As if he just stated the truth and everyone would now think “earthbound bad!!!1111”

Maybe they were going for a "This game stinks" tongue in cheek, reverse psychology style (in true honor of Earthbound)
or maybe it was Pokey that wrote this review?!!

"Earthbound is grind-heavy"

I can literally beat Earthbound without ANY grinding.

Earthbound also isn't supposed to be a plot focused RPG, it's about the journey and absorbing the environment around you, hence why Ness is a silent protagonist. His reasoning for calling the game bad are hideously flawed. Weak rebuttals on his part.

The only thing i can give him credit for is that the "Bland characters" argument is actually really valid, and something i don't see people talking about enough.

Like, the chosen four have almost zero personality, and you know it's bad when a random enemy called the Spiteful Crow has more personality than the main characters of your game

One of the best RPGs ever, I played the game as an adult and have had no nostalgia effect to blind me, and I loved it so much that after I played it on an emulator I played it on my SNES mini. Now, it's obviously not perfect, no game is perfect, but it's a truly fun and amazing experience in my opinion. It's not for everyone though, some or many people may not like it and that's ok. But it's definitely not a bad game.

Earthbound is a solid game and its deserving of a good amount of it's success and it's among my favorite snes RPGs right up there with Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4, and Secret Of Mana, but this game has alot of issues that can ruin someone's experience such as the random difficulty spikes like the fourside department store, the poor inventory management which makes replaying this game frustrating, and how cryptic it can be figuring out where to go sometimes.

When you remove all of Earthbounds unique quirkiness it's basically just a pretty basic rpg that hasn't aged as well as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6.I still like this game though and replay it every 3 or 4 years.

I don't think the game is very grindy at all.Outside or spending a little time leveling up in onett I never have to grind when I play Earthbound.The only time I grind is when im trying to get the Sword Of Kings.Earthbound is pretty easy RPG as long as you are smart with your PSI use(And Loading Jeff up with bottle rockets)this game is pretty simple.I could recommend earthbound to someone new to JRPGs.

I think more people need to learn the difference between personal preference and objective quality. For example, I don’t enjoy the Genesis Sonic games, but I’m not gonna pretend they’re bad games just cause I don’t vibe with them

I love earthbound's artstyle but I guess I could see how someone might think the game is ugly. It's definitely a lot messier looking than say mother 3 and some of the battle sprites look a bit weird

Even back in the Wii U when miiverse was there. People did a LOT of shit takes on earthbound. Like, the graphics, and the design. And most of all. The gameplay???? First off, the graphics it’s not even bad for an snes game. It’s actually really phenomenal how well the battle backgrounds and graphics are. The design? It’s a little weird and strange. But that’s honestly fine. It’s actually the beauty of it about mother being a crazy game.
And the gameplay? It’s an rpg. There isn’t gonna be that much thrills. But for and rpg it’s actually pretty fun in my eyes. I don’t understand back in the miiverse people were talking so much crap about earthbound. But hey. They could the young, have never played the game. Or that one miiverse kid who says earthbound is no longer good, and overpriced, and he moved back to CoD.
