I like how normal Earthbound is (I haven't played Mother, so I don't know what that is like).
But I love how it asks you what your "favorite thing" is, and your "favorite food".
I always said that my favorite food was "Salmon".
One time I feel like I may have chosen "MacnChz" or something like that (because I do like Mac and Cheese a lot).

Another thing is that in the mother 1 commercial, ninten wears a blue-red-white striped shirt and a red ascott tie with the franklin badge, even tho in the game, ninten has a blue and yellow striped shirt like the clay model, except that the game actually has the red cap.
In the gba mother 1+2 game, he has a black and blue striped shirt.
But in mother encore, wich even tho is unofficial, has the clay model but with the red ascott.
So its kind of hard to tell what ninten's real outfit looks like, so cosplayers cosplaying as ninten will maybe always get the outfit wrong

Yeah, the fact that the canonical encyclopedia for Mother 1 tripped up this hard on the color of the cap's brim (when all they had to do was make it blue), is a bit weird.
Another difference between Ness and Ninten (besides the direction their caps are facing), is the fact that Ness has more round hair at the tip, and it appears more curly than Ninten's. Ninten has more spiky hair. The yellow stripes on Ninten's shirt are much thinner than the stripes on Ness's. Also, Ninten has his shirt tucked in, whereas Ness does not.

When I think of ninten, I never think of his clay model. I always think of his sprite. I think of Ness and Lucas’s smash models but ninten has always been the sprite to me.

So the answer would probably be that the hat is a stock image or an image pulled from a local source.
But it's funny - Ninten is the protagonist with the most varied selection of looks. You've got the infamous red, white and blue with the bandana from the commercial, you've got something as absurd as Ken from the manga, and you've got something as small as the different shirt on the Ninten stand-in for the Hobonichi Mother watch.

I read the guidebook (with a translation) and it mentions the 2 artist who made the paper mache models and the props (respectively). They probably just gave the prop artist a list of items to make or buy to photograph, and Ninten's hat was probably just listed as "red hat" for both artists

Didn't the Encyclopedia also mention that Ninten looks like Luke from Star Wars?
