Can people drink alcohol when taking medicine? And does fruit such as grapefruit also affect medication?

2:27 Does eating food with high content of iron such as liver or blood sausages change the way our own liver metabolize toxins and drugs? I saw that liver also contain high levels of vitamin K.

I'm not supposed to have grapefruit with my synthroid medicine for raising my thyroid hormone. But grapefruit flavoured beer is soooo good. And grapefruit flavoured soda. But I usually limit myself to one if I'm ingesting anything with grapefruit.

has to be white grapefruit. not all grapefruit. most potent as a juice from concentrate. If you take it with opioids like hydrocodone it can greatly increase its potency. it essentially inhibits a certain enzyme in your stomach causing it to metabolise differently into a stronger longer lasting opioid. some drugs rely on that enzyme like allegra for example so it has the opposite effect and essentially makes it inert. I have severe pain and have been taking opioids for years and on really bad days I would use grapefruit to help get through it better.

Please, do not mix any alcohol, not even 1 beer with zoloft. You will experience a 7 day hangover, elevated pancreas and liver enzymes and panic attacks so severe that will end you in the emergency department. I tried that last week, just 1 beer, felt great while I drank, in fact I wanted to continue. Oh my God, if only I knew the horrible next few days. Huge price to pay for maybe an hour or two of feeling great.

Gonna stop what I thought was healthy smoothies, been smashing kale and spinach down for. Months, i wanted to k ow if i can drink on sertraline/ zoloft it didnt get an answer

I drink and take meds. No problems. Most meds are safe and you won't die from it.

hmmh. I wonder if there's anything I've missed.
I'm on 'potassium sparing' medication, I know, which means I have to be cautious with foods containing a lot of potassium...
Though I'm probably forgetting a few besides banana...

mmh. So many unpredictable interactions...
How are you even supposed to know what you need to ask your doctor about and what you don't?

I rather doubt many people would think to ask if eating grapefruit (or in my case, a banana) is a potential hazard...
