For a few years, the Mercedes SL was a little bit lost in the lineup, if you wanted luxury, you would get an S-Class coupe, if you wanted performance, you had all the AMG GT variants. But now the S-class coupe is gone, and the new SL has been fully developed by AMG. Is this still a luxury GT convertible? Not really, it has become pretty sporty and aggressive.

We have some big changes, the SL is AWD for the first time ever, it has back seats and it has become a folding soft-top instead of hard-top. With a 4.0L TT V8 making 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, it is certainly fast. The interior is loaded with fancy (and slightly overwhelming) technology. All of this leads to a slightly confusing personality, but there is no denying the SL63 is quick and enjoyable to drive! Join me as we take this $200k 2024 SL63 AMG for a drive and review!

SO I cross shopped a bunch of cars and ended up getting an SL 55. Love the car. Less body roll than the 911 drop top and just a blast to drive.

Glass roof R230 gen SL's were perfect year round daily drivers and rode limousine smooth. They were still lighter by the smaller size. But the V12's were even quicker on proper Michelin tires, not the Pirelli PZeros. As long as those old men golfing from your country club weren't driving. I prefer them: viciously fast when needed but luxuriously refined when laid back.

I prefer the individual setting of sport+ for the engine, comfort for the suspension, and amg dynamics set to pro.

great review but how is the build quality? extra throttle house had said not so nice things to say about it and also said that the ride is very harsh and doesn't absorb the bumps.

Doesn't the cost of your car insurance go down if it's 2+2 configuration rather than strictly 2 seater?

A 911 has just as "usable" rear seats, and no one really cares about those and yet are still grateful they're there. You're missing the point with this car.
