Mercedes-AMG SL review: the sportiest SL ever!

This is the all-new Mercedes-AMG SL!

Now the all-new SL has something very special compared to its predecessor - it’s now exclusively available as an AMG!

With that in mind, you can imagine performance is pretty good. And trust us, it is! The range-topper is the SL 63, which comes packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can put down an astonishing 585hp & 800Nm of torque! What’s more, it’ll propel you to 60mph in just 3.6 seconds!

But wait, it gets better! Once you step inside, you’ll notice a whole load of similarities to the S-Class, with a huge infotainment screen dominating the dashboard. You’ll also find high-quality materials throughout the cabin, while upfront there’s a pair of comfortable sports seats.

However, as you can imagine, all that quality and performance doesn’t come cheap, with the AMG SL having a starting price of £125,000!! So is it worth it? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

I have (and will) never understand why Mercedes ditched the hard top, especially considering it only saved 21kg… hard top looks so much better and luxurious….😔

Got to love a good review, I thought so much of this car before this review. What ruins it for me are:
1. The weight
2. The touch button that you have to hold down, for a convertible it is usually either you want it up or down. A button press should be enough
3. between the looks of the sports seats and Matt's description of the ride quality, seems like it will not be nice to cruise in

Automatic gearbox, two additional seats in the back, all wheel drive, V8 engine and most importantly aluminum chassis. All in all a very interesting Miata.

Can't wait to see the AMG sl63 version. The amount of torque these new AMG produce is insane. Too bad the weight has always been an issue.

So, AMG brought in an AMG GT chassis

Tweaked it, swapped the 7 SPD DCT for an 9SPD MCT, which is probably the same one they used in other AMG 63 models, kept the same engine, and installed a brand-new interior that actually feels nice. Well done.

Just to let you know, to take the soft top up or down, you can actually operate it with the same button you used to get the animation up on the screen, tap it once, and then hold it. You don’t need to use the touchscreen.
