Actually, all but 4 of our employees are independent contractors. The others make between with between 1-99 years of experience.

Fun fact, it's a federal law that your boss can't prohibit you from talking about your salary

I remember being called in to HR about a decade ago about me openly talking about salary (in a Massachusetts company). They spent 30 mins trying to explain how it was against corporate policy and this is a warning that any additional mention of salaries would be cause for termination. Having been there 10 years I knew a lot of people, so I grabbed my phone, called the cell of the companies legal counsel and said “I may have heard a theoretically posed HR scenario from your client that you may want to advise them against saying why don’t we post this question to you and you could inform them how if they did say such things how many laws they would have just broken”

It's only a matter of time before these companies force their employees to become "independent contractors" because of this 🙃

I remember working for NTT data. I was hired for 35k, a buddy of mine who went to the same college and graduated at the same time and was hired at the same time as me only made like 28k. later he was then promoted to be my boss, and they didn't give him a pay raise.

Its weird making more money than your boss.

Worthy of note: The later you get hired, the more money you're worth. That's right. The longer you're with a company, the less valuable you are. They give you raises of a couple cents, but only so that you don't look at your friend making 3 dollars an hour more because you invited him to apply at your job. Suffer with this knowledge

If they had decent labour laws, the simple fix is just to specify that independent employees working the majority of the time in one location or getting paid predominantly from one place, then for the purposes of certain labour laws they are still employees of the hiring company. Come on US, even Africa is getting this right.

Have always been for employees talking about their pay. It's not illegal and it allows everyone to know where they stand.

I honestly can’t understand people who say you shouldn’t talk about how much someone else makes.

I legitimately had a conversation with someone and it was like talking to a brick wall, his argument was “well if I settled for x pay why would I get mad at it the moment I knew someone made more” like what? If I got ripped off and then found I got ripped off why would I get mad?

What was nice about being in the military is we all knew about how much everyone got paid. And told each other how to get paid more 😂

Salary transparency is good for the employees. That's how I got a 20K raise.

There’s been studies that show that people get away with paying people less because they don’t know how much each other making, by that I mean you could have two people doing the same job with the exact same race, gender whatever but because they don’t know what each other can make they can undercut one or both of them.
