I'm so happy that you took the time to feature Gigi and the Vibes on your channel! There's a lot of truth in what you mentioned about Filipinos and their love of singing because this provides the basis for Gigi's impressive singing talent. Voice lessons are not the norm in the Philippines and not a lot of Filipinos can afford them or would find it even a priority. However, they are passionate about karaoke and it is this platform that allows them to try out their singing in a fun and comfortable way - with family, friends and work peers. There is no voice coach to teach them about techniques. What they learn is purely from emulation of their favorite singers. Vocal dynamics, breath control, vibrato, articulation is not something they consciously think about - it's more of feeling that the delivery is "right".

Even without any known formal vocal schooling, Gigi is very confortable with her vocal range and is fearless in trying out new things. Watching her perform is delightful because she puts so much feeling into it and the vocal technique becomes second nature. Gigi has been schooled in live streams where she takes requests from fans. Some of these songs are from a list of hundreds they already performed previously but they also attempt to sing new ones they have not done before.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Most Filipino singers do NOT have formal training. It is just part of the culture to encourage to children at a very young age. Of course, there are a very few exceptions such as Leah Salonga and a few others.
After being discovered, some go through some sort of training at their own expense.
Gigi is so versatile because she does different genres and actually makes the song her own.she even has a Rock medley and many more!

Good reaction from a vocal coach who knows a great vocalist. Gigi de Lana is one of a kind singer. Her rendition of Though the fire x Piano in the dark is SPECTACULAR. She's stunningly beautiful with a voice of an angel. You have to react to her cover of BETTER DAYS. It's a great one. 💯💯💯🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶🎶

Gigi and the Gigi Vibes are amazing. I know how great Mori, Katrina, and Sohyang are but Gigi is my favorite artist today. Gigi's golden tone and versatility are out of the world. Keep listening and prepare to be amazed. She has so many sides. 80s Gigi is my favorite.

As I am watching this, very sad and tearful, Gigis’s’ mom just passed away last night 😢
She’s the driving force of Gigis’ career and success after she discovered Gigis’ talent when she was 4 years old
She encouraged Gigi to sing more
She truly believed that Gigi has that unique singing voice
She became Gigis’ number one fan
She is so proud of her and Gigi while growing up also realized that she has this in born talent and became her passion, Gigi didn’t have a formal education in music and singing

Hi Christi, great analysis. The Gigi rabbit hole is deep! U had some Q's which i will try to answer. Yes she's untrained & was joining singing contests for many yrs. She's been playing with this wedding/party band for over a decade. During the pandemic, everything was closed down for a very long time in PH. They had no gigs, became very broke & depressed. So they decided to do livestreams from a 1-car garage for 2-3 hrs, taking song requests. They only had a few viewers when they started, but fast forward to 2024, they now have 2.14 Million subs on their channel. They have many videos, but for starters, u can chk out BETTER DAYS (Diane Reeves), FLY ME TO THE MOON, ALL I ASK (Adele). They moved to a real music studio last year. They are now finishing up their US & Canada tour. I saw them live in New York last month ❤

So far you've reacted to my favorites (AJ, Mori, Lara, Marcelito and now Gigi). Gigi does few great duet with Daryl Ong (After All - Peter Cetera & Cher cover & I Just Can't Stop Loving You - Michael Jackson cover). I have 2 additional singer your might want to consider: Lucy Thomas 20 yo from England who just did her 1st live stage performance in Manchester, England. She often sings with her younger sister Martha 15 yo; last year on mother's day Lucy, Martha & Louise (mother) recorded "SMILE'" music composed by Charlie Chaplin in 1936 and later Turner & Parsons added the lyrics in 1954 which was then released by Nat King Cole.

The other singer to consider ifsTori Holub (20) some refer to her as Karen Carpenter 2.0 (very-very close). If you get the chance check out "We've Only Just Begun" with James Wilkas. Unfortunately, she isn't getting much love on YT...those who have checked her out are stunned, just like reactor who experience AJ's "I Put A Spell on You".

Gigi had been well trained by Top Filipino Musicians when she was competing for a yearly national singing competition two times in Philippines, when She was 14 yrs. 2nd placer and 1st place when She was 17 yrs old i think.

This is "The Queen of Covers" as she is known. ANY song ANY style and she and her band own it. Usually, take a song and put their own spin on it. Try Unholy, fly me to the Moon, L.O.V.E, Decode etc. A real rabbit hole artist and one of my favourite artists. 2 million subscribers from a live stream audience, which started during the pandemic to pay for her mums cancer treatment.
