In this video, we compare the traditional 3x drivetrain to the modern 1x drivetrain and explain why the latter is superior in many ways. As avid cyclists with years of experience, we have tested and ridden bikes with both types of drivetrains and have come to the conclusion that 1x is the way to go.

First, we explain the difference between 3x and 1x drivetrains and the advantages of the latter. With a single chainring in the front and a wide-range cassette in the back, 1x drivetrains offer simpler shifting, reduced weight, and better chain retention, among other benefits.

Next, we demonstrate how 1x drivetrains perform better in challenging terrain, such as steep climbs and technical descents. With a wider range of gears and the ability to quickly shift through them, 1x drivetrains offer greater control, making them ideal for mountain biking and other off-road adventures.

We also compare the cost and maintenance requirements of 3x and 1x drivetrains, showing how the latter is more cost-effective and easier to maintain in the long run.

Throughout the video, we share our insights and experience, providing tips and advice to help you make an informed decision when choosing between a 3x and a 1x drivetrain. With our guidance, you can upgrade your bike and enjoy the many benefits of a modern 1x drivetrain.

Whether you're a beginner looking to upgrade your bike or an experienced cyclist curious about the latest advancements in bike technology, this video is a must-watch. Discover why 1x drivetrains are superior and take your cycling to the next level.

I still prefer my 3x systems. It gives me a lot of fun. Maintenance wise 1x is better. But I choose 3x

It's easily a 1x, having the front derailer is less than ideal. Yes you lose gear ratios, but most high end rear gears are adequate for covering this loss.

3x is much better especially for Touring. The range and diversity is just awesome. Combined with a 8 or 9 gear cog makes it perfect. It can't be that easy missaligned when you hit the rear derailleur so not to sensitive on any impact and you get easy parts for it. So why bother with 1x and 12 gears, 3x and 8 or 9 gear ftw.

3x systems have gotten that much cheaper these days.

As a xc cross country lover 1x feels so slow just good in climbing i prefer 3x with 9 on back which is overall good at climbing n just rock in downhill n plain area

U don't need a chain guide with 3x9 because the front derailleur is acting as a chain guide

3x times better, if you're not a racer.

I love 3x or 2x. At first it was confusing but you will get it eventually and never to think so much about it. And you'll have to replace your chain more often on 1x than on 3x or 2x.

Well, 1by is giid for off roading amd climbing, while most 3by will allow you to travelich farther and faster.

I've got 3 bikes, one 3x, one 1x and a single speed coaster . Even on my bikes with gears I end up only using two or three of them .

I've recently swapped my 2x10 with 1x12 and so far I'm happy. While driving my 2x10 and 3x9 before I always had to think about where there I need to go down in the front and up in the back or just down in the back. Now I miss those lost gears when I'm going down the hill tho.

Wheel size has an effect on how useful 1x or 2x is over 3x because the rolling diameter needs to be taken into consideration

1x for mountain bikes and XC but 3x for other types of riding

I personally run a 1x12 and have been loving it I've rode bikes with 2x and 3x but personally I prefer a 1x so I'm gonna have to go with a 1x

I'm thinking about changing my 3x to a 1x. When I ride I never change my front gear. I always just keep it on high... do you guys think it's worth it?

3x is better and better for fast shifting

Of course climbing is easier... you're in the granny gear all the time.

With modern 1x with 12 gears at back there's really nothing more you need
