I’ve found that employers who dislike a large group of people based on the actions of a few are not usually employers you enjoy having

here are some complaints I've had with gen Z that I've turned into advice for the people reading this:
- calling should be your first choice for communication. if you have to text, use proper grammar and avoid informal language.
- come dressed how you would dress for the job. if you aren't sure, dress up, not down — you'll receive an official dress code if hired.
- avoid one-word answers in the interview.
- if being asked about something you don't have experience with, don't just leave it at that. talk about something similar you do have experience with, or tell us about your related education.
- have confidence! don't trail off, shrug, mumble, downplay yourself, etc. you come off a lot better, even if you have to fake it til you make it.

It’s more than that though. A lot of their bases are unfounded biases as well. Basically the cards are stacked against us on all fronts.

About 2 months ago, I interviewed a 22 year old for a job at a smoke/vape shop, and she rolled her eyes at me and the owner when we asked if she vaped or knew anything about the product. I understand not liking to smoke or vape, but maybe don't apply to work as a sales representative at a smoke shop and roll your eyes at the owner. We also dont enjoy interviewing gen z, and I'm a gen z.

I'm one of those eye contact people, but it's a mix of being self aware of my eye that floats and another being that I'm autistic

Honestly, with the wages people offer nowadays, I'm surprised anyone shows up at all. "This is a key holder/management position. Yes, you must have open availability. Don't worry, you get one weekend off a month, unless store needs change, of course."

"...You're... Offering 11 dollars an hour?"

"Yes, that is the going rate currently for this position, but don't worry, there is room for advancement."

Does none of those bad things as a Gen Z, still doesn’t get the job 🥲 idk man, sometimes I think it’s an age thing

Or, and hear me out here, older people could chill? And I AM older now. Like, if it's a remote job and you're doing an online interview, as long as they aren't logging on from a strip club literally who cares.

Used inappripriate language or use different language than interviewer of older generation because generations might talk different?

This kind of responses are pointless without details/definitions.

I had to do hiring interviews... the ammount of people who had the vibe that they were at the interveiw with a gun pointed to their head was insane. So many people were so pissed off that they had to interveiw.

A lot of this I understand but what does eye contact have to do with anything.

Some of these are skills we learn in school. Eye contact, speaking up. I myself am late to the "party" but in an interview I try to become the boldest version of myself

Ill bet that these similar stats where sited as to why "hippies" werent highered in the 60s. "Long hair" "inappropriate (new words/phrases because language changes) language" "disrespect"
All the same song in a differnet age. One thing is constant. Change. Highering managers need to learn that

I’m with you on all of these except eye contact. That’s not something we should judge too harshly on. It could be a cultural thing, it could be that person is Autistic, etc. lack of eye contact does not mean that person is unable to be professional or do the job well, in my opinion

Im fed up with employers wanting to record virtual interviews. I have no idea how my video will be used after. You don't set up a camera and record in person interviews so why do you need to record vitual interviews? Usually their answer is, oh so the rest of the team can watch interviews and give their feedback. Hmmm, do they not trust your judgement as an interviewer? Why aren't they all present for a panel interview then? Just because recording option is available on zoom doesn't mean it should be used. This is abuse of power. So many times i put up with being recorded because i was desperate for the job

I’m not going to lie, I agree with this. If you want the job dress nicely, use proper language instead of slang and you’ll more than likely get the job.

I was part of a team doing technical interviews via webex and it was clear that most of the candidates were using Google in order to answer questions…. Pathetic
