A British teenager who died of cancer was cryo-preserved in the hopes that science will catch up and find a cure to save her life.

My grandfather passed away from a massive stroke when I was in 8th grade (I'm 23 now) and he was cryogenicly frozen. My younger brother and I are his only grandchildren. I'm just thinking about this for the first time, but after my father and my aunt both pass away, the burden of remembering that my grandfather is frozen somewhere passes onto us. Since I honesty don't see a reversal of massive brain damage being a possibility in my lifetime, I see myself having to one day explain to my future children about what happened to their great grandfather and then the responsibility of remembering a man they didn't even know passes onto them, and so on and so forth. I personally hardly know anything about my great grandparents, so I wouldn't be able to pass along any information about them even if I wanted to. I'm afraid that somewhere along the line, my grandfather will be forgotten and if/when he is thawed and his brain damage is reversed, nobody will even remember who he was. :(

I wouldn't want to be cryogenically frozen . When you thaw out years from now all of your family will have aged or passed on themselves .

I think it might be possible in the far future to bring back someone who was frozen alive but not dead and then frozen. That doesnt make sense.

She probably won't be revived unfortunately cause the damage is too much. But in a few decades it will be possible to freeze someone in good enough condition to preserve the fine structures in their brain and their memories. In fact you can already do it with mouse and pig brains under lab conditions. Though you're only preserving the structure, the physical body and brain are dead but "you" could be digitally revived.

Not only going to have to wait for a cure for cancer, but a cure for being cryogenically frozen. For which there currently is none.

Everyone should have the right to do whatever they want with their body, but it might be important for people to understand the reality of this stuff: (a) she was already dead when she was frozen, and (b) Even if we could revive people who had been cryogenically frozen, you have to consider that the cell damage from freezing by dry ice is probably too severe to make someone revivable. The only way I could imagine this would work would be to freeze them by dipping them in liquid nitrogen to reduce the formation of ice crystals. It's nice to give people hope, but it's REALLY sad to think these people are getting their hopes up. :(
