Earlier this year, two-year-old Thai girl Matheryn Naovaratpong became the youngest person to be cryogenically frozen, her brain being preserved at the point of death. Her parents say they are "100% convinced" future medical advances mean she will one day be restored to life.
They told the BBC's Jonathan Head it was their love for their daughter that drove them to seek this route.

This is heartbreaking. Nobody should ever lose their child.

You don't ever tell a parent who lost their child, to let them go. Whether you agree with their grieving methods or not. Speaking from experience.

We must remember death is not separate from life. We can't look at life and death as two opposite sides of a coin, but rather look at them as being on the same coin. Death is a part of life.

Losing a child is like losing half part of soul. You don't feel happiness anymore, for sometime. I've been there, I know how it felt. Don't wanna let her go, but have to. Some old man said to me: you love her, that is true. But God loves her more, so let her go, let her rest from that pain. Damnit.

I wish she could have had more time with her parents

These stories break my heart :(
I can't imagine the pain that the parents did/are going through..
Can you imagine (if it becomes possible) waking up 800 years later!?!? it would be so bizarre..!

Did I hear that right? They only preserved their daughter's brain and some other cells? So they would basically be just putting her consciousness in to someone else's body. Even if technology ever advanced to the point where this was possible - it wouldn't really be their daughter anymore. It would be someone else's body. She would look totally different. Sounds like something out of a horror movie. And how sad would it be for her to come back to life many years in to the future, but all of her family would be dead by then.

This is so sad and yet strange because a lot of us don't even think about this when losing someone we love. The future really is here...

A huge part of me believes that this is very wrong but I can't get the words to explain why

Just watched the documentary. Bawled my eyes out. Still crying actually.
This is not so much a story of scientific technology but a story of love, hope and most importantly how every person deals differently with the inconceivable pain and grief of losing a child.
Wether we agree with cryogenic or not is beyond the point.

if she comes back, she'll probably be so lonely.

It is very painful to lost a beloved child, but I think that acting like this is just prolonging their own suffering and not letting the poor girl rest peace.

I feel so sad for the parents. What it would be like to lose a child I hope I will never know.

All I'm thinking about is futurama. How crazy would it be waking up in 2350 and seeing the whole world change and trying to adapt to everything.

Just let her rest in peace... Why freeze her though? I know it's hard to let go, but The kid suffered so much pain, just let her rest in peace
