My dad went from "we are never getting a cat again, they destroy the furniture and only live 15-20 years" to (while giving her supper) "I'm your favourite, aren't I? No one else was feeding you, just ignoring you, but I won't let you go hungry, there you go"

My dad adamantly refused my mom’s begging for a dog for years. But the moment she brought our family dog home, he fell in love. It was mutual. My mom fed him and we all trained him but at the end of the day, our dog always picked my dad.
When my dad got really ill in the hospital, my mom arranged for the nurses to get him out for an hour so he could say goodbye to his biggest friend. He said afterwards that he could now go in piece.
(And our dog aged overnight after my dad died. He reacted to my dad’s name up until his death in 2022)

Boyfriend was adamant he wouldn't ever bond to my cat. I was fine with that tbh, he never mistreated her and still went out of his way to show her affection and get her to be comfortable with him when he moved into her space. He now spoils her more than me, and I'm honestly competing with him now as her favorite person lol

My mom- any more than 2 animals is hoarding.
Also my mom- *brought home the last 3 animals. We now have 6.*
Explanation for the other animals- my dog and my cat are the two oldest. When we got my dog, we also got her sister. We had already had my cat and my mom had her elderly dog. We lost both my dogs sister and her dog in 2020, and not 2 months before my dog died we brought in a kitten who was starving to death. It was supposed to be temporary but we all got attached and he did to us. Thus from that point we had 3. Then 2 years ago we got a kitten from a friend, 2 months later got another (from a litter that wasnt their cats but it had birthed them on their porch. He wasnt old enough to come home the first time so we took one of the older ones from their cats litter.) Then last year she bought a puppy.

My grandma is the same way with my cats, we took in a feral cuz of a hurricane and she had babies, she wanted to get rid of them and we did end up reforming one which makes me sad cuz I want all of them… and momma cat being a escape artist somehow escaped from the vets? (We were getting her spayed and the kittens too) but we have 4 cats, grandma loves them all and at this point she treats them like precious little babies who she would never even consider getting rid of them, she feeds them constantly and they’ve learned her schedule so they can beg for snacks

My dad used to be like "a good cat is a dead cat", hes the one who found our first cat, and the cat LOVES my dad lmao

I wasn't against the idea of having a cat or 2 but knew we were already struggling a little financially and that we'd have to consider the choice extremely carefully and maybe even wait a few years before we approached that idea.

Anyway my mother, with no hesitation, agreed to adopt 2 cats who needed homes urgently, and I knew I'd completely fall for them the moment they were brought home, if not sooner. Been 2 years now. Sadly one passed due to undisclosed (probably unknown) medical issues that caused her cancer after a bit over a year of complete love and affection, but we still have 2 cats because we, like the dumbasses we are, went to the shelter "Just to see."

My mom hated the idea of getting a parrot but now that I have one she makes him snacks every day and gets more gifts for him during Christmas than she does her own children 💀
