Quickly Enter Current Date and Time in Excel

One cell can receive both date AND time as date is an integer (number of days elapsed since January 1st 1900) and time the fraction of the day that it represents. 12:00 being 0.5 and 18:00 being 0.75 for instance. To enter the current date AND time in one cell do same as you showed but only type a space in between the shortcuts. The integer part is the date, the decimal part is the time of that day. Here, you now have a bona fide timestamp! Works the same under MacOS with Command key instead of Control key.

Short and sweet, thank you! One quick question, I use Excel to track phone calls and the date I make the call. If I make many calls on the same day, I can't just click on the lower right-hand corner of the previous cell (drag it down) and have that date copied into the cell below it; I get the date of the following day. How can I replicate the date?

Time is usually not separate from the date and should be recorded as such.
Use CTRL+":", CTRL+";" then Enter.
It is odd to use the TIME short cut followed by the DATE short cut.
On time cards, people have trouble with elapsed times across midnight because only the TIME has been recorded.
