That double Allen key technique was a nice little nugget. I learned something! Nicely done.

A good way to remove a split link is to get it on the chainring, but using one too few teeth so that the link is standing off at 45 degrees. You can then give the roller a tap with your handy multi tool and it will all come apart.

Great video. I’m scared to touch my bike in case I bugger it up, so videos like this show just how easy it is with a bit of know how and the right tools

Use this exact multi-tool in my saddle bag - with one addition. Instead of the chain tool I swap out the tire levers in the case for a Lyzene "chain pliers" chain tool so I can replace quick links (it stores 2 with magnets) as well as having a chain breaker and spoke key. Together this gives me absolutely everything needed for roadside maintenance and its light and small enough to take with me whether I'm on a short little training ride or on a multi day bikepacking adventure!

Hey GCN, when you mention something like that Topeak toolset, could you please name it, and maybe provide a link, in the show notes? It would be very helpful.

I can open my KMC quicklink by hand. Not tool required, really. Take it between your thumbs and push.
If that doesn’t work, take some length of string, guide it through the adjacent links, knot it together, put it over a stick (or a screwdriver), and twist.

"Glamorous Assistant" --> Ollie, of course! 😂Jokes aside, very cool video. Will certainly help me when I build up my new bike!

Before watching I thought "and a torque wrench" that mulitool is a cut above the one I carry!

A tool is not needed to remove or to install a quicklink. A bit of string wrapped around it and pull on the string will remove it and installation is by putting it on and pushing down on a pedal with the brakes on will lock it into place.

Use a shoelace for quick link removal :)

Great video! Now I'd like an overview of multitools which are capable of putting it back together, ie with a torque wrench. Would be handy for longer bike treks/holidays.

Find someone that looks at you the way Alex looks at his multi tool 😂

They make some tire levers that fit together to use as a chain pliers so that would have been one less tool from the wall if you subbed them in for your tire levers.
