12 years ago I saw a doctor and asked for a Rx for an anti inflammatory drug for my arthritis. Well she refused it, instead she wanted
to prescribe an opioid. I'm an RN,
and I was flabbergasted. we had an exchange of words, it was unpleasant, I left
without my prescription, and found another doctor.

It was drug dealing at a corporate level. Get dealers ("education" at physician events) give drugs to be given to users (prescribe addictive narcotics) and get them addicted to the drug and get it paid for (forcing insurance to pay) and then escalate it. One of the downsides us actual chronic pain had incredible difficulty in having their pain controlled properly due to being labeled drug seekers due to the flashback.
