Great video, that was very helpful. I just had a door to door guy come by. Tried to say I have hail damage and we can file a claim for it and get a new roof.

Ok, you covered several things that you face in Colorado. In Texas, life is much different.

I believe you are trying to be as helpful as possible, but in other states your approach is not 100% valid.

Canvassing works and is 95% of the work we get. Yes, you have to be above board to stay in business.

Talking to the 800# person with the customer present has been a project saver!

We have to file hail and wind down here. Too many times we’ve seen an adjuster say too much of one and not enough of the other. Claiming both has always been a winner here.

Negotiating with carriers - I agree we can’t do that. We do suggest items and good ones actually consider our proposal. They may say no, but they don’t get everything right.

I’ve been to many seminars by companies who support roofers all over the US. They tell us the horror stories you face in that state. I truly feel for your predicament.

Please don’t push this as “the way it works” universally. Keep it to your state.

I hope I was virtuous and professional. You have a nice day.

I had my roof replaced and we found a ton of water damage when the old shingles were removed. Major plywood had to be replaced in some cases the facia board and parts of the rafters also had to be replaced. But you could not see these problems until the shingles were removed. Prior to this replacement, I had substantial damage on my walls due to water damage. Now I believe that the roof problems lead to my stucco problems. Can I claim both problems to my insurance company or is it too late?

I live in Tennessee. I have read my insurance that covers roof replacement. My company pays 100% labor and up to 50% on shingles. If the shingles were top of the line at the time of installment my company will pay 100%. We still have to pay our deductible. My concern is when we make the claim that they will cancel on us. We have had the insurance for 20 years and used it once 15 years ago.
I would never let a stranger do any work for me. I also would never speak to my insurance company until I get the information from the roofer. Plus, I will never assume to know when the damage happened.

So if I am making a claim because I had roof damage above my kitchen and only want to get that fixed, do I have to let the insurance adjuster into every room of my house or do I decide what I want him to look at.

And now you are trashing Canvassers? You are a piece work!.
That comment is going cost you business! The absolute heart of the entrepreneurial startup roofer is canvassing! It is quintessentially the American way!
I really don't know how you sleep at night! But God Bless!
I think that as much as you're trying to help people you're trying to promote your own business and say things that are in your personal best interest not necessarily 100% truthful and honest! Like the man said, "Opinions are like As-Wholes, everybody's got one!"

This video has been very helpful. I’m wondering - I received a letter to replace my roof due to granular loss by my home insurance due to a recent inspection for insurance purposes. I intend to have a roofing company come out and have them assess my property to determine if I file a claim. Does the fact that my home insurer sent the letter identifying granular loss - is that a reason why a claim will not be honored? They have sent me a second letter stating they would not renew my policy this coming November since I have not responded with proof it has been done. They did not give me a specific date I needed to send proof but did know I needed to have it done by November. This is very stressful as I know absolutely nothing about dealing with roof replacement. I filed a claim during the Texas winter storm, they denied that claim, I didn’t fight it as I had so much to deal with and $6000 came out of my pocket. Why would they accept this claim.

Bad advise, not letting your roofer call in the claim with the home owner. The home owner is not equipped with the roofing knowledge and what storm damage he has on his roof, and may not have the storm date that damaged their roof. I have see too many home owners call in the claims without a reputable roofing contractor and it gets denied

My insurance agent stated that I couldn't file a claim unless I gave the date of the damage.. What anyones opinion on that?

That's a lot of talking and flip flopping around brother. Put this info into a bullet point and speak efficiently from there. No need for so many works to relay information particularly since most people have 30 second attention spans. 290 likes. How many more could have been converted if the information was clear, concise, and to the point(s)? Just sayin'
