Getting the right beginner credit card is SO important! This is gonna be such a helpful video for those just getting started. I personally started with the Chase Freedom Student and then moved into the Chase Freedom Unlimited. But if I was talking to someone just starting out and wasn't a student, I would recommend the Discover it first (secured or cashback versions), and then tell them to move into Chase right after that to avoid ever worrying about the 5/24 rule. Great video all around man!

I currently have a Discover it secured and it hasn’t steered me wrong. Great for building starter credit.

Loved this video John! Could you please do videos on the following:
- Business cards beginner to expert guide
- Business card utilization and if it matters for your business credit report like it does on the personal

One important thing you forgot to mention for the bilt credit card is that you must use it at least 5 times each billing cycle to earn the points.

My personal beginner credit card route was the Citi custom cash and Citi double cash. This let me get 5% back at restaurants (which was one of my higher spend categories monthly), and 2% back on everything else!

It’s a wild coincidence that I’m looking into credit cards today, saw your 2022 recommendations video, and then saw that you posted a 2023 video literally an hour ago. There must be a credit card in here for me lol

You can actually float a balance on a credit card without affecting your credit score too much. The most important thing is 1-maintaining a low utilization so you can't just carry balances on everything and 2- only doing so on credit cards where you're in a 0apr intro period. A majority of beginner cards these days have 12-18 month 0apr periods. So if you have a sudden expense - let's say you need to replace your car tires like I did - you can throw it on a new card to help meet the spend for your intro bonus, then set up automatic payments from your bank to pay out the balance through your 0apr period. As long as you manage your balance and are otherwise responsible with your spending its essentially a free loan.

The discover It card is essential to start off with purely bc the student will get you approved when you have no credit. I had no loans. nothing. So I had no credit and got denied on another card but discover it was boom done (with a low limit at that time so they won’t let you get to out of hand if that’s a worry)
