Intel changing socket every 2 years, AMD 7 years.

Well I think the fact is everyone’s waiting for AM5 to mature and get better proces on there MBs… plus a lot of us just upgraded on the last gen of AM4! Why would I upgrade my barely 2 year old CPU?

am4 is just still great value. Where I work we still sell a lot of am4 custom builds more than lga1700 or am5 builds.

Not that Intel's high end doesn't have its own drawbacks, that being a huge cooler and larger psu for their stupidly high power draw.

I went AM5 for my mini itx build because of the potential of a longer upgrade path, as well as power draw. Don’t know if I’d feel comfortable air-cooling an Intel chip in such a tiny case. Thunderbolt would’ve been nice though 😅

Once you change to DDR5/AM5 youre good for the next 5-7 years. Intel will force you to buy new mobo if you want 14th gen CPU

In India, the Ryzen 7950x is 61k, intel 13900k is 55k, then you look at the motherboard proces of both and AMD looks like a painful purchase, the only upside is that they hopefully support the am5 platform longer thN the ryzen 8000 series

Damn, I didn't realise it's the majority of people who tell me what's my go-to. Thanks, bleet!

I'm sticking with AM4 for at least another year or two, especially when I got a damn good deal for a used 5800X for 140€. Motherboard pricing for a decent AM5 B650 is just too much, CPUs aren't that cheap either within the EU, only the DDR5 prices are fine. Not worth upgrading unless I see a massive difference. I upgraded from an old Intel i5 4440 to the R7 3700X back in 2019 and that was an amazing jump, these new chips have to offer a similar jump for a good price to make sense.

If I had to build a new system, I'd go AMD. Intel's 14 Gen will most probably use a new socket, and even if don't, the bios wont be retrocompatible. AM5 will last for at least 2025 (2-3 gens more) so even if it is a bigger compromise, it will surely get old better

Idrc if it's about money. I just really like AMDs CPUs and GPUs

At least I know my AMD motherboard will support its socket type for multiple generations...unlike Intel changing socket types every 2 years making me have to swap to a new motherboard.
