Unfortunately, it isn’t common sense bc it’s not widely taught. But I’m here to help! 🐾

This is not actually common sense, I fear. 🐾
I don’t expect it to be! Just using ye olde trending sound. Unfortunately most things about service dogs are not taught at all anywhere, even in basic training for jobs, which is really unfortunate to me. 💔

I’m here to help!! As a disabled service dog handler, I have answered a lot of service dog questions on my page, in my service dog highlights. I’m always happy to answer more! Let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to answer below!! 🐛

I’ll run through some things right now!
ESA: Emotional support animal
Do they have housing rights? Yes!
Do they have public access rights? No.
Can they be any animal? Pretty much!
SD: Service dog 🐕‍🦺
Do they have housing rights? Yes!
Do they have public access rights? Yes!
Can they be any animal? In the U.S., they can only be a dog and a mini horse, but any breed. Some states allow cats.

*this was referencing CA law, check your states laws!!

I need the right people to see this. Every flight I’ve taken my kids on I’ve had a “service dog” jump and bark at us

My friend got her dog “certified” as an ESA via a dubious online website in about 20 minutes. Some fancy-looking papers came in the mail and everything. I’m very skeptical about anyone claiming to have a certified ESA at this point.

Are certified therapy dogs considered service dogs?

yeah but people who really need ESAs or actual service dogs often can't afford them at all and they have to make do with what they have. if a dog bothers you, by all means confront the owner, but otherwise let them be
