Had the DJI Action 1. Had it time-laps riding from Germany to Italy in the car. Never shut down, never overheated. Big fan of the DJI and its features. And the difference is so subtle now that you cant go wrong at the 300 bucks price point!

Whenever I hear about heating, freezing and restarting, GoPro comes into my mind. So no, I'm not going after GoPro this time, especially with the GP2 chip. DJI has long supported the Osmo 1 with updates, so I respect them for that.

Just some added info on the pricing. GoPro is $399 if you get the subscription. Yes, it is a bit offputting, but it is easy to cancel. Additionally, if you are an AMEX cardholder, there is an offer to most card members of a $40 credit on a GoPro purchase through the end of the year. So the end cost of the GoPro can be $369 (vs. $329 for the Action 3. The sad part, is even with the price leveled, it is not an easy choice for me. DJI has consistently demonstrated higher reliability and also DJI's business model is to continue to offer firmware enhancements after a camera is released whereas GoPro immediately focuses on developing the camera that they want to sell you next year.

DJI is like a Honda engine, tough and it'll keep going and going. Owned the OG Osmo Action for 3+ years now and I've never had it shut down on me for no reason, always got the videos I wanted. So ill be going with the Osmo Action 3, plus the adventure pack they have for 100-ish bucks more for 2 batteries plus a charging pack? By far the better pick!

I've seen a few of these comparrions now. The DJI looks good, cheaper and comes with adventure kit for the same price as the standalone GP11, the gopro handles highlights, shadows and details better. The A3 under and over exposes in certain scenes. there's good and bad with both so no matter which one you're buying they have something over the other.

Thanks for the review. Lately, DJI action 3 camera users have been complaining about poor focus, do you think this is a factory defect? Does your camera have focus problems?

GoPro all day long. Look at the detail available in the clouds where as the DJI clouds are blown out. GoPro has so much more dynamic range in every situation. Better colors, better audio, better stabilization, horizon lock, higher resolution… yes it costs more but that’s why. Also, if Dji had all those things going on I think battery life would take a big hit. GoPro just has it figured out for sure. 🤙
