How to Solve keyboard typing wrong characters - windows

ALL you need:
Check your language settings
Make sure NumLock is off
Run the keyboard troubleshooter
update your keyboard driver.
Uninstall keyboard drivers
restore your PC
Buy a new keyboard :)

Most of my keys were typing special characters and some weren't typing at all. Uninstalling the driver and restarting my laptop worked. Thank you!

A quick fix could be pressing ALT+SHIFT since it’s possible the keyboard format was switched from QWERTY to AZERTY.

Thank you for being thorough. After watching over 6 videos of people "nerding" out on me showing me complex stuff, your solutions turned out to be more effective. I simply updated the driver and restarted and it worked.
People are out here on YouTube giving us high level solutions and leaving out the basic shit.

One thing to check before changing languages and regedit and drivers etc: Make sure NumLock isn't activated! If you have a keyboard WITHOUT a dedicated number pad on the right, and suddenly find the letters half way across the keyboard are returning numbers and symbols, it could just be you've hit NumLock by mistake!

For windows 11 the shortcut is Windows key + spacebar in order to switch back from AZERTY to QWERTY

This was fantastic! All of a sudden, my question marks (?) were coming out as underscores (_), my colons (:) were coming out as something else, the quotation marks were coming out as something else. It was the third solution you offered (uninstalling the drivers and restarting the computer) that solved the issue for me. Thank you so much!

My top row is typing the letters at the bottom row along with the top row for example if I type “Q” it puts Me Q, and Z or if I press R it puts R and V.
