Last night actually, I watched your video before cleaning my washer..the one thing your not touching on is; the rounded edge of the drum that’s right next to the gasket…if you take a wet cloth, put it over your pointer finger and run your rag-finger under that drum edge, while turning the drum, omg..that was dirtier than the rubber ring! I used a toothbrush at first, but it didn’t pick up the gooey scum like a rag did. It took so many times to clean it, I was grossed out lol

I use washing soda (it’s a natural bleach) and Borax, which kills mold to scrub gasket, then run a hot cycle with Borax only. The washing soda is best diluted with warm or hot water first.

I checked out the oven cleaning video..and wow! Thanks Mr Gizmo, I sort of knew about this to clean, but I didn’t leave the baking soda mush on that long. I’m going to follow what you did next time. We are so brainwashed into thinking we need chemicals, especially older generations..I especially dislike air fresheners. I say get some pine needles or your somewhat spent bouquet of flowers; toss in a pot of water, bring to boil, then put on low and set a timer. There you go-nice smell. No cancer causing junk.

Mr Gizmo, I checked this video of yours as I am trying to find some way of easily pulling the gasket back from the metal edge of the drum to clean that out....
I am so glad I read through all the comments before adding mine. One person mentioned water and the issues that can cause - and of course if you live in the south then - HUMIDITY ! I was going to say "please tell me you just bought this house...." LOL. So it seems this has built up over time.
We live in a coastal rain-forest so humidity+ and are on a well with very hard water.
Wiping the glass each time, wiping down the gasket every other wash, leaving the door open, no mould and only the occasional gathering of fluff, hair, stuff(mud?). Not an angel, just keeping on top of looking after business.
I would like to suggest a couple of things to really get after that mould. Fantastic Spray comes in a couple of formulations and will not damage the gasket. I always use the original one, and you clearly need to remove that *EWW*** mould. Spray it liberally on the mould and leave for 3-4 minutes. Put some dish-soap on a nylon scrubbie (one that looks like it is a ball of knitting) then go at it and scrub it off. There is no way you will damage the gasket and you will be able to get it off. If that does not do it then I hear Spray-9 is very good.
Good Luck ! 😇

You did not show the door seal at the end, so is it is safe to assume the mould was still on the seal.

Our LG is 8+\- yrs. I try to leave the door open. Every wk or so I use a Lysol wipe on the door (no abrasive cleaners) - or even after a load of new dark towels or hoodies. Take another wipe and clean the folds of the door seal, and finally open the little door at the front and drain the overflow and clean the trap that looks like a gas cap. All good!

@mrgizmo211 So, does the baking soda go directly into the main part of the machine or just in the dispenser when you run it though the hot cycle?

Still cleaner than this girl I once knew.

do you know whats causing plastic rubber particles in my washer machine? I heard its cause of dirt and friction? DO i just avoid this by just rinsing it ?

Best to do the following: after every wash run, wipe down the door and inside seal. Once laundry is completed for the day/week, etc... wipe down door, rubber seal and leave door open. I do this all the time-no mold. I also pull out the detergent/fabric softner dispenser and leave it in the drum between wash periods. Mold/mildew can get up in those places as well. Once a month or so, clean out the detergent/fabric softner dispenser and run a cleaning cycle with white vinegar or those cleaning tablets. Makes a huge difference.

@Mr. Gizmo : Be aware that using vinegar or any acidic solution (by itself) regularly breaks down metal and causes rust and eventual damage in the long term. Using baking soda does help to dilute any acidic solution.

On any front load clothes washing machine you need to leave the door open after you run a load to help it dry out.

Most of the time we do a quick wipe down of the water on the inside of the door and the seal.

We have yet to have any issues with any growth.

Is it possible to completely remove the seal and clean then put it back on ? I have a ton of dog hair and it’s just everywhere and I want to really spray the seal all the way clean

I watched a appliance repair video and they use a product called pool shock. It’s chlorine. I also read you can use two cups of bleach in the detergent tray and run an empty hot water cycle. I’m currently doing this now.

Have not seen a single video on YouTube that actually can remove serious mold stains.

Omg what happens with your Samnsung Top Load? 😰 Do you still recommend it?

Just buy a new gasket and flush it all out manually as the inside would be accessible. That is just surface cleaning, the inner guts could be worse. Top load vents better, venting out moisture is key. Keep your drains clear and filters clean. Always clean cycle your machine as well

Just get a top load washer - much easier
