Cleaning your washing machine (also called washer in some countries) will help improve the performance of your washer while removing gunk, odors, mold and mildew.

For FRONT LOAD washing machines:
1) Add 2 cups (one full box) of baking soda in the washing machine.
2) Run the longest and hottest cycle possible.
3) Add 2 cups of white vinegar (with 5-10 drops of lavender essential oil) to the washing machine.
4) Run the longest and hottest cycle possible.

For TOP LOAD washers:
1) Fill your washer with hot water.
2) Add 1 quart (32 oz, or 1 liter) of chlorine bleach to the water.
3) Start the highest, largest capacity cycle and let it run for 15 minutes.
4) After 15 minutes, stop the cycle and let the mixture soak for 1 hour.
5) After 1 hour, restart the cycle and let it finish.
6) Restart steps 1 to 5 but with 1 quart of white vinegar (32 oz, or 1 liter).

If you follow these quick and easy steps, your washing machine will thank you and your clothes will smell much better! Plus you'll lower the risks of getting mold and mildew that could have harmful effects on your family's health!

OMG! My washer is 20 years old and I never knew it had a filter. Black stuff was literally caked on hard as rock. Bonus though, I did find a quarter in there.

I've been doing the baking soda and vinegar every few months for years now, and cleaning the dispenser tray but I had no idea about cleaning the filter at the bottom or the rubber door gasket liner. I've learned something new today.

I love my washer! Had never had one like this before. When the grunge smell came the first time I did so many things I thought would fix it. Nothing helped. Ran into a video that was so incredibly done, step by step, with pictures. I'm an old lady, the pics helped. Now I have a routine for cleaning and I do use the Afresh tablets and wipes. These are such great washers and. On the storage pedestals, perfect for older women and even young children learning to do laundry.

I feel cleaner already. Sooo thankful for this. I clicked on what looked to be an article (but was actually an ad) that was extremely lengthy. At the end was a link to 6 tablets. Normally $50 but are half off now. So, I did the smart thing and "YouTube'd" it! Thanks a million... A million is likely what you've saved people over the years with this video. That's cool as hell. Thanks again.

After finding stains on certain clothing, I decided it was time to clean my LG washing machine. I started with just vinegar, but now will go back and do the baking soda, including a toothbrush method that you suggested. So glad I found this video, and thank you for your time in doing so.

Old vid, but something important that you missed: On most front-loaders like that Samsung, grunge can build up on the panel above the dispenser trays. When you pull the tray out to clean it, be sure to look up on the inside of the opening for mold and/or grunge. That's where the water comes into the trays, and if it's grungy, it can add grunge to your clothes, and can plug up the valves, preventing the detergent, etc. from being properly dispensed. A wet toothbrush is usually the solution.

Thank you for sharing! I just deep cleaned our washer and it turned out great. I'd never used essential oils before when deep cleaning the washer and it was a nice touch.

Awesome tips! I work on laundry appliances and your last tip about cleaning the lint trap/filter in the pump is really important. Not only does it help with the smells, but has great potential to prolong the life of the pump. Meaning saving money on a large repair bill.

I’ve watched several YouTube videos on how to clean your washer. But the one ingredient that not one person has mentioned is Essential oils. Particularly “Lavender” oil. I am def going to try this today. I honestly didn’t realize for 1 you need to clean your washer. I just assumed since I’m always putting soap, Clorox bleach, vinegar, and baking soda oh and can’t forget clean water that the washer would be clean. For 2 I hadn’t even snapped to opening the door when not being used so the washer airs out and doesn’t create mold. Great advice! Thank you 😊
