Joe you’re the man! I wish you were making videos 11 years ago when my band was recording and making this mistake all the time.

One thing this video did do was start me thinking about how the vocal/instrumental mix is on my favorite tunes.

Ah yes, the Deep Purple stage monitor mix problem: "Can I have everything louder than everything else?"

Mixing and being in bands for years, I will tell you this is a guitar player problem 😜

I find in some programs, adding EQ and reverb makes the track more quiet, sometimes to the point increasing the fader on that track just doesn't help. Any advice on that?

Advice for someone moving from Live Engineering to Studio, I am used to open space and natural reverb and reflection and now that it's all dead I'm struggling to get my gain staging/dry mixes to sound good.

Hi Joe. I think there is another thing we should be aware when recording voice to mic while having headphones on the head :). When we put the volume in headphones high enough then the audio from headphones is recorded by the microphone again and it is not something we want :). Cheers

Hi, Thank you for making this video. I have a question for you, I am using the Volt1 Audio Interface with the Shure MS58 microphone (connected to my Macbook Pro), I would like to make my microphone sound louder into my headphones while using direct monitoring during my recording without causing any clipping/distortion by adding too much gain. Would a cloudlifter or could you give me any other solution that would fix this? Thank you

I have been working for a long time trying to get STUDIO ONE and my pre-Sonus headphone amps to give me enough volume when I record a vocal. I have good condenser mics and a studio 24C Digital audio converter. I set the levels on the mic input on my interface at about noon or one but even if I set my headphone amp to fall on my voice still seems too quiet. Moreover, the waveform is always very small.

Whats up Joe! My biggest issue right now is adjusting volume levels while recording a mix. Also, how do I record my mix?

one of the first lessons I learned mixing other people's monitors it might be an issue of turning other things down.

Do you keep acoustic guitar volume the same throughout a song? Or do you lower volume of acoustic tracks in parts where electric guitars are more prominent???
