That delicious buttery smooth swing at the start of these videos are really a juicy selling point!

This is high quality instruction. It also helps when the instructor has a fantastic swing himself and can put into practice all the key movements he is explaining! 👍🏻

Played today with this in mind, against one of my better playing mates! Won the front nine handily! But as the quality of the score became apparent in the back nine, I became more guarded and the old muscle memory tried to intervene with the shoulder to parallel to the ground in the back swing, less tilt, leading to rotation stalling, early hip extension and flipping of the hands in the down swing! Managed to hold on to square the back nine and add a few pounds to the coffers! My best outing for a while! A tremendously liberating feeling when done right, but frightening! The speed! On holiday so straight to the range tomorrow morning! Can do better! Muscles I have clearly not used before, are aching, good! Cheers Mate!

Great video and instructions your demonstrations makes it easy to understand Thanks 👍👍

Great one Craig! Makes so much sense, the match up of side bend, extension and release to ensure a consistent shallow impact from the inside.

Great information. Going to practice this move. Thanks

Hi from England Craig. Another great video, thank you. Your swing is poetry in motion! Release is something that I'm struggling with at the moment

I don’t know if you realize how great this video is. When I swing like you demonstrate here I’m in the seventies. Yesterday for some reason my lower body froze up to start the downswing and I had pull hooks all day ending up with a disaster for score. This video was meant for me. You must have ESP 😝

I coach people to swing like that stressing the side bend action which is absent from most recreational golfer’s swings and releasing the club through impact with “waggle down” action I learned from following Hogan’s five lessons and by analyzing and duplicating the positions in stop action photos of tour golfers and reading a lot of golf instruction books.

Two things I’ve found really helps a beginner understand how a swing should function and feel. The first is starting by posing them with proper grip statically in the impact position at the point the club face needs to be not at impact but when the ball releases then work them up to the top of backswing position. That gives them a conscious understanding of that the goal of the biomechanics are and the ability to executed them reflexively. Like you say 95% are gob-smacked that a golf swing is supposed to work like that.

The second thing I do is have them swing and hold the club horizontal before cocking in the backswing then grab the head and pull them off their feet backwards because it is always too far inside and pronated in the lead hand. I then position it were it should be outside the hands pulling the lead arm straight and again pull. Most again get pulled of their feet because they have never experienced a club pulling in that direction and are not braced for it. But after 2-3 more pulls their reflexive brains kick in and change posture to brace. I then repeat the same drill in the post-impact position where the trail arm gets pulled straight. Those drills give them a clue what the swing should look and feel like from their perspective at the other two key swing waypoints.

As for the 95% ignorance factor, I don’t think it is not a matter of golfers not seeing swings like that — we all watch the tour pros on TV — but rather instructors not understanding how to communicate the underlying goals and strategies before trying to teach the techniques.

What percentage understand the goal of the backswing is to coil the body like a twisted torsion bar to be released in by simply relaxing the torque in the downswing or that the reason the lead arm needs to be connected to the chest and pulled tight in the backswing is so it can be made to fly off the chest like the lever arm of a Trebuchet dragging club-head mass like the projectile in the sling down into the ball with dual lever action?

Hi Craig, can you tell me what is the angle of attack for irons

Good lesson, in my golf the biggest problem is tension, I think this is overlooked

markkindell

yep so many are toe up by waist high on the release

I turn, but I tend to hit pushes or push fades. Especially with driver. I know this means my clubface hasn't closed enough in the release relative to the path. I have a strong grip, so that is not the issue. I can manually close the face more in the downswing, but then it mostly becomes about timing. Any pointers on a natural release that helps close the clubface more?

So interesting at min: 6:17. "The torso almost moving at the same time as the hips". After 40 years of golf and countless golf videos - I have NEVER heard this before. Always the hips leading/firing first and the upper body staying back. Though this distinct lower and upper body separation can produce some good results - I found it very difficult to time correctly leading to really poor directional control.

I can do this with the ball teed up, really powder it but struggle a bit off the turf. Any thoughts?

I’m really struggling to get my left shoulder under my chin, I don’t know a good player who doesn’t do this, is it possible to be a consistent striker without it ?
