People Laugh At Bing. It’s 2X More Lucrative Than Google.

Since its introduction, Bing has been a meme. People have always seen Bing as Microsoft's crappy attempt to take on Google. And though Bing was a massive loss leader in the early days, over the years, it has evolved to be much more than just that. You see, Bing has been able to create a pretty strong niche user base thanks to their rewards strategy. This has only been assisted by people’s growingly negative opinion of Google and growingly neutral opinion about Microsoft. This is no coincidence either. Microsoft has become a lot more passive over the years and has started to embrace its competition instead trying to compete against everything. This has allowed them to make a chromium-powered Edge that’s better than Chrome. And it appears that Microsoft is carrying over this same approach to Bing as well. Instead of trying to force Cortana down people’s throats, Microsoft has opted to incorporate ChatGPT into Bing which seems to have generated a pretty positive response from the public. This video explains the underdog story of Bing and why Bing is not a failure

Been about a week since i switched from Google to Bing. I really do like the experience here. It offers everything google does with some additional features. Also switched from chrome to Edge and my computer feels much snappier.

I'm slowly transitioning to Bing for searches now. I feel like Google is tampering too much with the search algorithm and feeding me results which they feel like rather than what I expect.

Definitely true - as an IT expert I avoided Microsoft products my entire life and even 20 years in my professional life. They tried to get users and lock them down in their all-or-nothing mentality. Glad to see they have come out of this phase, because while I have no emotions towards Microsoft one way or another, one cannot ignore their skill and competence as a world leading tech corporation.

Now is a really dangerous time for Google. Keeping the company culture/strategy like this and they will fail against a way more flexible Microsoft. Or trying to radically change course and risk losing control. Also Microsoft seems to have their revenue streams more diversified and most revenue comes from locked-in companies.

I wouldn't expect that profits scale linearly with the market share percentage. I.e., probably if Bing had the same market penetration percentage of Google, it's fairly possible that revenues per percentage would fall.

I am looking forward for these changes in the search landscape. I actually liked the fact that the old in-house version of Microsoft Edge was able to open e-book formats easily. It also memorized the last page you were reading (something that the current Edge does if you open a PDF with it. I've never seen Chrome do that).

Just switched to Edge and Bing from Chrome and Google a week ago, and so far I have no desire to go back...

i noticed that edge eats less RAM than chrome itself despite being a chromium based browser too while being responsive as well
now i'm giving bing a chance and it's soo good

Bing should make a dark mode before AI chat.

Solid video. I had no idea Bring was nearly this profitable. I recently switched to Bing to try it after all of these years. I’m shocked at how good it is now. Can’t wait to see the search wars heat up!

I haven't checked out Bing in a good 5 years until they announced their AI bot, and man it has improved a lot

I have Bing chat and ChatGPT constantly open on my second monitor while I write a book on my main monitor. There is no better application to have access to while you are writing. They answer any question I might have related to my writing. Definitions, synonyms, perfectly tweaking a sentence I can't seem to get perfect on my own, advising on punctuation etc, etc. ChatGPT blows my mind when it comes to understanding the fine nuance of the English language. Mmmm bah bah google.

Good timing; Google searches were getting more and more useless by the day. Not respecting my quotes because the algo thinks it knows what I'm looking for, better than me? Not cool Google. Not cool.

Overtime Bing I'm sure will take the lead that Google currently holds, situations such as this aren't unheard of; once less viable options have changed themselves to become fair better than their competitors.

It's what I expect to happen, another search engine will inevitably take their place. Just looking at companies of the past, patterns like this immerge constantly.

I just switched from google and chrome to bing and edge a week ago. I can say edge and bing are much better and less resource hungry. I love the quick side bar search of edge though.

Bing is pretty great for a search engine ngl. I still don't use Edge since I am so used to chrome dev tools. But if I was just a normal user and not a web dev, I think I would have swapped already. One of these days I will make the switch, Google has really fumbled the bag with chrome/google search.
