This is the most devastating catastrophic event that has ever hit our region. I drive these roads here and all over Southwest VA and Northeast TN every day for work. Even though I'm not personally impacted today from property damage of my own or any immediate family and we are all safe, I'm devastated seeing every single town I know for a couple hundred miles under water. It's so much worse and so much more widespread than the news is able to report right now. There's just way too much happening way too fast to report on it. My heart is constantly breaking for the people I've come to know over the years all throughout our region. A mere human just can't process this all. It's the closest we've ever been to Noah's flood again. If you aren't from here and you have any pull with the government getting resources to help, PLEASE HELP! This will take MANY YEARS to recover from! We were already struggling in this part of the country just to pay our bills, now we've collectively lost an untold amount of homes and even more businesses that literally KEEP US ALIVE. The desperation of our situation cannot be overstated.

It just humbles you to see just how much energy that storm accumulated. Also…..appreciate nature even more. Notice those trees have no issue (relatively) holding on. We should know our place and let nature grow where it should. And my goodness Tennessee is just gorgeous

My mamaw worked at the hospital, she was there, she's ok now. If you know her it's Diane Miller, I can't believe this happened, worst flood of Tennessee.

I used to deliver steel wire to factories in Newport & Johnson City.
I hope everyone is safe & I hope the area is able to recover.

I 26 between Asheville and Johnson City is one of the most beautiful stretches of highway anywhere. The mountains are tall and water tends to run downhill. I see part of I 40 between Asheville and Knoxville is also washed out. What a mess.

Looks like the roads and bridges helped bottle neck the water. I hope the people of Erwin will overcome the devastation.

Hillbilly here. That flat level area next to a river or creek and between mountains is a flood plain.

I was a kid living in a trailer in Sandy Bottom, across the Erwin bypass (I-26 now) from the Riverview FWB Church in the video, in the '77 flood. I almost drowned then but I honestly think this is worse than '77 ..
