Powering a Fire TV Stick with a TV's USB Port - Can You Do This?

I tested the consumption with a cheap USB tester.
The Fire TV 4k consumed ~150mA while watching FHD TV, i never had any issues other than no HDMI ARC at startup (could also be the soundbar software).

I have a mi stick connected to tv usb port at 5v 500ma. Yes, performance is slower compared to the usb adaptor but still the stick works.

This helped me soooo much!! Plugging the USB into a random charger block and just plugging into the outlet. Couldn't figure out why the TV kept restarting & every video I watched just said to unplug for 5 minutes & hold power button for 30 seconds which obviously didn't work. Thank you so much for this video

What I did was take a 10ft outdoor/indoor power brick stuck it to the back of my tv with double sided tape. Plugged that into the outlet then plugged everything needed into the power brick it works great and looks great.

fire TV 4k comes with hdmi extender. I can imagine this would further increase the power requirement too. Great vid, thanks

Am I the only one who is missing that the USB in TV's is exactly and really the only purpose being installed it to power converter/any other device needing USB power? What is Earth shattering about this???

Great video, I’ve never heard of the issues of plugging into the tv instead of the wall. It doesn’t hurt that you’re handsome either. My firetv stick is always plugged into two usbs and I’ve had no issues. Lucky me 🤘

Yep, I had the random rebooting until I broke down and ran a long USB cable thru my wall down to the powerstrip. I've thought about getting the power-assisted (battery) cord, but since it's working fine now I haven't bothered.

I'm using usb port to power my fire tv stick and there is no issue since then but can it effect the fire tv stick in long-term?

Can I plug the power cable to a wall outlet with electricity 220v? Or is it only for 120v?

My TV has 2 500mha USB port and pluging in these will make de firestick reboot all the time. But there is one extra port that is "time machine ready" and has 1000mha prepared for a external hard drive. This one i can use and the stick works perfectly fine.

Seems to have been sorted out on the 4k and philips 2024 smart tv both my friend and myself have been using it all year with usb supplied and it's not doing what the Gen 2 done so i dunno but just make sure ECO mode is OFF

I have a Nintendo Switch with a spare USB port.
It says the USB ports on the switch have a power output of 5V at 1.8.
This exceeds the requirement for the Fire Stick 5V at 1. Will I run into other problems by providing more power?
