The price of a lot of power in the handheld steam deck is fan noise (well, and battery life). but how bad is the fan noise actually?
lets test it out.
Test was run at room temp, 72 degrees, with the battery fully charged, running elden ring

I was checking if anyone else had this problem, and part of me is relief that I'm not the only one with this issue. I was playing Black Ops 2 with the plutonium client on Lutris, on desktop mode, and I swear, it was fighting for its life. I hope I haven't done any damage to my deck. I look all over the web and see if overheating damage anyone Steam Deck, and luckily, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Fan noise is annoying for most people but I've gotten quickly used to it because my computer fans are incredibly loud and whenever I turn my pc off it just sounds weird in my room I also have tinnitus so it's nice to not constantly hear ringing in my ears so I always try to keep a tv or a fan on when I'm trying to fall asleep so having a loud fan will honestly be better for me

its honestly kinda soothing to hear, cus when things around me are too quiet i get kinda freaked and my ears start to ring. im still getting the lcd over the oled bc i dont have that much money, but thanks for easing my troubles on this topic

I’ve got the one with the delta fan (the one that’s got the high pitched whine). The hyiaying (don’t remmember the exact name) doesn’t have as much of a whine apparently and can be bought from ifixit. But right now it seems you can only buy it in the U.S. Argh. On the other hand I mostly play less demanding games so the fan rarely kicks in any way. But the noise is so loud that it limits the games I want to play on it. The loudness itself I can live with, but the whine is another thing

yes you are right fan noise is definetly loud. Even on much less demanding games for example I played timberborn on high settings capped at 30fps and fan goes crazy. But for example shadow of war caped at 60 low- mid settings is much less noisy. It really depends on games you are playing.

The only time i've noticed fan noise is when noise is when games install and it isn't even annoying.

this noise is making me angry if i'm going to play it on a plane i think i would because it would confuse the fan with the plane

I have no issue with the fan noise at all. I never hear it.

I'm almost certain you have a quieter fan than me because mine sounds like an airplane at full throttle

Maybe we need to use headphones because I heard no fan noise.

I can't even hear my fan. I kinda wish it would be louder if it pushed more heat, I'm sure that's just me but this thing seems like it's burning when I run a modern game.
